Family Counseling Tips?

have a family game night or go out and do something fun for the day, do something that involves everyone, maybe something involving trust.

What is involved in the ADF Assessment Day?

1. Psych:

The psych will be asking you a lot of questions about your family and friends, but mostly about yourself, your employment history, etc. Just be confident and very honest. Do not I repeat do NOT, lie because you'll need 10 more lies to cover it up and he WILL catch you. Don't just tell him what you think he wants to hear, trust me it won't get you very far. Have good eye contact (very important) because otherwise the pysch will think you're lying or lack in self confidence. Always remain positive, because the psych will try to attack you with some demanding questions and you'll need to remain calm and relaxed the whole time.

2. The medical:

They get a urine sample from you, then you'll do a quick eye sight check and BMI check with a nurse. Then a doctor will give you a thorough check up (heart rate, breathing, ears, nose, mouth, hands, feet, hernia checks, feeling your abdomen, etc). You'll also be required to do push ups and sit ups (I had to do 5 each).

3. The defence interview:

You'll have a more formal interview with a currently serving officer in your chosen service. If you fail the psych, you won't pass this part unless the interviewer is very pleased with your performance. Do your research about your job roles, current ADF operations. If you're going for soldier entry, know exactly why you want to be a soldier, and why you want the job which you're applying. Be VERY polite and respectful. Remember the interviewer is not your friend, he's a senior officer and you should certainly treat him as such (ie. don't treat him as equals)! Be very humble, if he points out something, don't challenge him, just nod and agree (lol). Stay relaxed, maintain good eye contact and you'll be right.

Best of luck!

Its not that HMS does not allow time with family. Its the problem that you are always in another city and unable to get back to your home on your days off. Any candidate for this position knows this going in.

Any job in law enforcement requires you to be on call all the time. It doesn't mean that you will be called but you could. There are vacations. I think a rookie gets two weeks a year.
