Going to Boone NC what to do?
There are lots of outdoor activities to do around the Boone area as far as hiking etc goes. I highly recommend you go check out the Blue Ridge Parkway and drive south on it from highway 321 at Blowing Rock. You'll first come upon Moses Cone Manor on your left so be sure and stop in there and see the manor as well as the gift shop there. The ladies will like the gift shop a lot.
Then continue on south and in a few miles you'll come upon Julian Price Memorial Park. There is a beautiful small lake there with a nice hiking trail that goes around it. It's about a mile or so around and a great short hike with nice views of the lake. There is a parking area right as you get to the lake so park there and walk back across the bridge and the trail will be immediately on your right. It comes back to the parking area.
The go on further south on the Parkway to the Linn Cove Viaduct. That's the amazing bridge that curves around Grandfather Mountain. It's amazing and on the other side of the bridge there is a visitor center with a short trail you can walk out to view the bridge from underneath, Be sure to follow the trail a short distance beyond the bridge too and you get to see some amazing boulders and neat views of the bridge from above.
While in that area you can go to Grandfather Mountain if it's a clear day and see for miles. It's great up there and I highly recommend it if you've never been.
There is the town of nearby Blowing Rock that you'll enjoy. Lots of little shops there the ladies will enjoy. If it's cold enough and they're making snow you can go to Appalachian Ski Mountain there too. You can just go and watch the skiers from inside the lodge or rent all the equipment and ski too.

In downtown Boone there are plenty of little shops and restaurants that I'm sure you'll enjoy. A restaurant I haven't had a chance to visit yet but I hear is wonderful is Melanie's in Boone. Here is a link to their website I take my son to Macadoo's in Boone often and it's a great little bar and sandwich shop.
One of my very favorite places to eat is Joe's Italian Kitchen. It's known better by the locals since it's not right up in the downtown area but it's close. Joe has recently added a 2nd location next door that has jazz too but I've not been there yet. Here's their website
Across the street from Joes is a place called The ReelHouse Cinema and Draft. You can enjoy a movie and have beer there. I'm not certain they are still open but it was a neat place as I recall.
The Daniel Boone Inn is a must if you've never been. Go there for breakfast but be sure to get there at opening time or just before. Otherwise you'll have to stand in line a while. But if they do have a line don't let that stop you. It's worth the wait!
There are many Christmas tree farms in the area too. You may want to plan a trip to one of those. They will cut and bundle your tree and strap it to the top of your car. It can be a lot of fun!
Also nearby are the communities of Valle Crucis and Banner Elk that are neat places to visit. You can also drive over to West Jefferson. I think you would like it there and I know the ladies would. Here is a link to learn more about West Jefferson
