Any salesperson (mobile phones or else) are paid to make sales. If you were a salesperson and would not get a definite "no", would you give up or continue to call? I hope you would continue, as otherwise you'd be out of a job. After all, a salesperson who does not try to sell, cannot be a saleperson.
But perhaps it's also down to the culture in this country: We seem to shy to deliver a clear "no". As long as you are vague, a salesperson will take your answer for encouragement. If you clearly tell them "Thanks, I am definately not interested, please do not call again", they won't.

It will never be a waste to take opportunities to learn more for sure. I guess a lot of your time would best be spent on finding clients... prospecting as they absolutely will not fall right into your lap when you are an unknow... even when you are well known and experienced you will still have to do some prospecting for clients if you want to do well.
