Jenny McCarthy and Autism?

Regarding Jenny McCarthy:

According to Jenny McCarthy she is an `Indigo child' while her son Evan is a `Crystal child.'

Back in 1999, Lee Carroll and his wife Jan Tober wrote and published a book entitled "The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived." Lee Carroll insists that the information was gotten via conversations with a spiritual entity known as Kryon. First the Indigo Children arrived on earth and then, in 2000 -- according to Carrol, Tober and Kryon -- the Crystal Children began to appear.

According to Jenny McCarthy, if you wear a piece of jewelry with a gem known as "mission purple eagle" you will not be afflicted with autism .... regardless of whether you had autism before you wore the jewelry or you are merely taking precautions not to 'catch' autism.

Hmmm...

Jenny McCarthy's 5-year-old son, Evan, is still autistic despite all these wonderful CURES she is promoting in her book.

Regarding the cause of autism:

It's genetic:

Canadian-led research identifies new genetic regions linked to autism

Provided by: Canadian Press

Written by: SHERYL UBELACKERFeb. 18, 2007

TORONTO (CP) - In the genetic equivalent of looking for a needle in a haystack, a Canadian-led international research team has pinpointed a new region of DNA thought to cause at least some cases of autism in children.

"Researchers at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children and the Offord Centre for Child Studies in Hamilton teamed with scientists and clinicians from centres elsewhere in Canada and eight other countries to scan the entire human genome for autism-related genes. The consortium of scientists - 137 from 50 centres worldwide that make up the Autism Genome Project - analyzed DNA from about 1,600 families with autistic children to try to zero in on a specific group of brain cells and the genes that affect their development and function. Their analysis led them in part to a region on chromosome 11, as well as to a gene known as neurexin 1, part of a family of genes believed to be important in communication between neurons, particularly during the brain's development. The findings, part of the largest genome scan ever conducted in autism research, were published online Sunday in the journal Nature Genetics. "

As for vaccines...

The following articles may be useful in showing that scientists firmly believe that vaccines do not cause or affect autism:

'No link between mercury and autism' - new study"

"SEATTLE, USA: Researchers at The Montreal Children's Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) have revealed new evidence dispelling the supposed link between mercury and autism."

...

"How many studies does it take to satisfy a crank?"

"Epidemiologic studies have shown no link. The Institute of Medicine has looked at the evidence for the link between mercury and autism and found it to be specious. Thimerosal has been removed, to no effect. Throughout the Autism Omnibus proceedings we've seen the best case for a link and it's a joke. The measles PCRs linking gut samples from autistic kids to "chronic measles infection" from the MMR jab were false positives. At every single point when this problem has been studied it's been found to be a specious link."

...

"No link between mercury and autism: study"

"The research team examined mercury levels in hair and blood samples provided by autistic children and their mothers and concluded that the levels observed did not differ largely from those taken from children without autism."

"The study also "demonstrated that there was no correlation between the mercury level and the severity of symptoms and level of functioning of autistic children."

...

"Study backs safety of MMR vaccine"

"A UK study of more than 5,000 children has ruled out any link between the MMR vaccine and autism, researchers say."

...

"FEAR NOT"

"Vaccinations don't give children autism. They save children from disease."

Our son is currently being assessed for autism?

Our son is currently being assessed for autism?

Ange you cannot diagnose autism with a blood test its not an illness .. Thomas has severe autism and i wouldn't think of putting him in a pushchair he has autism he isn't physically disabled so i see no need for a push chair, i am not really sure what you are asking here though Ange he can walk as Thomas can and he needs to know even if he does have Autism he still needs to walk regardless of how he reacts i know this because Thomas was the same down to lazyness not Autism

Are people with autism special?

Are people with autism special?

I'm not sure this is exactly the answer you are looking for but hopefully it will help.

A general thing that makes anyone with autism special is that they are some of the most honest people you'll meet, they are caring and sweet, and they don't judge you, they could care less if you were the richest person in the world or didn't have a dime to your name, they don't care if you are in namebrand clothing or in hand-me-downs. They don't care about the superficial things in life. In all honesty I think many people could learn a great deal from people with autism.

I have a 4 yr old with autism who will be 5 in about 3 weeks. He was diagnosed 1 month after turning 3 and was mainly non-verbal at that time. His speciality is he has an amazing memory and he learns things very quickly. This is some examples of just how amazing he is.

By the time he reached 3 1/2 he was reading at a 3rd grade level, he taught himself how to read. He now knows every state, where it is located on a map and what the state capital is, including washington d.c as being the national capital; you name a state he'll tell you the capital, you say the capital and tell you which state. He knows the capitals of mexico, puerto rico, us virgin islands, guam, and america samoa. He knows every continent and ocean and where they are located. He knows all of the great lakes and where they are. He knows where certain countries are and where ceratin seas and bays are throughout the world, he don't know them all but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not that long before he does. He knows every president and what term they served such as 1st president, 23rd, etc. & he almost has down the dates they served their terms. ( if you say a presidents name he'll tell you what president they were, and if you said 14th president, he'll tell you who the 14th president was). If they are on any dollar denomination he knows who is on what (washington $1, lincoln $5, etc). He can do double digit addition and subtraction. He loves books, not kid books, he perfers dictionaries, encylopedias, that is how he learned states, presidents and such; he loves to read parts of the newspaper and he loves phonebooks & catalogs. He just started doing the tv crossword puzzle from the tv guide in sunday's edition of the newspaper, granted he did not answer even 1/4 of the clues but for those that he did fill in he was correct. We play guitar hero here at home, we have 1, 2, encore, 3,& world tour, he can tell you every song on each game and who performs it and if it displays a year the song came out he knows that too. He can tell who hosts certain shows on tv, especially game shows (he loves numbers & $'s), he can tell you what channel, time, and day certain shows come on. He loves NASCAR, he can tell you what driver drives what # car, kinda like the presidents & states, you name a driver he'll tell the car #, you say the car # he'll tell you who drives it.

He absolutly amazes me, his teachers and his therapists, he truly has a unique gift that I don't feel would of been possible without him having his autism, it may have restricted him in other ways but it did give him something very special. I know many kids are very smart these days, but I don't know of or have heard of many kids having the unique gift that he does especially those at the same age as he. Now if I could only afford a digital video recorder so I could post a video of him on you tube so you would be able to see for yourself just how special he is. You might want to do a search on you tube for autistic savants, these kids will amaze you as my son does me. Some have mentioned to me that he is a savant, I can say if he truly is or not it's a very long process to truly know, I just hope that as he improves in other areas that have been affected by his autism that he never loses his gift contributed by the autism.

The part you mentioned about withstanding extreme cold I do find possible with people with autism. Many people with autism have sensory integration, their senses can be extremly under or over sensitive, so it's very possible a person cold withstand extreme cold conditions because they may simply not be able to feel the fact the it is so cold. For example many with autism have self-injurious behavior, they will hurt themselves not realizing what they are doing because they can't feel the pain as we do, but again in other cases they can touch something that is soft to us but it can be extremly painful to them.
