howdo you fix a computer that cnnot load a users account?

ohhhh... this question would have been so much better put in the Computers & Internet category. All the 'techies' are just waiting there to answer questions like yours. What puzzles me is that when doing a hard boot (after having shut down), it shouldn't have anything to do with loading any sort of account, so odd that you received that particular error message when booting up. It should be fine leaving your computer on for a few days. I don't do it generally, but some people always leave their computers on, so that wouldn't cause a problem. You didn't say, but did you try totally shutting down your computer? If not, you should do that, making sure it has fully powered down. Then turn it on again and see what happens from there.

If I'm totally off-base here, I apologize. If you don't have any luck, consider reposting in the Computers & Internet category, make sure you provide all necessary details.

My PC keeps alarming on hot days. I assume it's overheating. Can you get additional fans fitted to stop this?

Speedfan will keep track of temps for you.

or Rivatuner

or Everest

Taking the side off requires only a small amount of technical ability, and would probably cool the cpu by a few degrees immediately. Probably? - in a case where there is good airflow, this would be reduced by removing the side - that's not something you need worry about!

If taking the side off does the trick - two things:

minimise the opportunity to accidentally introduce foreign bodies to the case: feet; fingers; pencils; pets; children...

you will need to clear out the dust more often. gently. by putting the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner in the vicinity of the components NO TOUCHEE! A compressed air can is useful in provoking cleaning out fans & fins. In fact, that might be a good place to start - dust build up over time seriously impairs the effectiveness of fans - I've lost a couple of graphics cards that way...

Fitting extra fans. I would suggest this is not easy - there is likely to be nowhere to mount them. It may be that you could replace your existing case fan with a more powerful one - that should be straightforward. In my experience you are likely to have to replace an 80/90/100/120mm fan with one that is the same size. You need to look for high cu.ft/sec values - this is likely to go hand in hand with rpm (and dB - it will get noisy!).

I once blu-tac'd a spare 80mm fan at the front/bottom of my case, to suck air in. I was trying to cool the hard drives - it may have worked on the cpu - a little.

The psu. Fairly easy to change out. The replacement should have at least two fans - one to blow air out the back, and one to draw it in from the case.

First step - clean existing dust out.

Second - monitor temps

Third - change rear case fan

Fourth - change psu

Good luck.

Clarkson University -- Questions about The Clarkson School?

Clarkson University -- Questions about The Clarkson School?

You sound like a good candidate.

To be honest, I replied here more because I remember fondly my years in Potsdam. Of course, back in my day, there were beer blasts every weekend (150 kegs, 4 hours, live music), and the annual February Ice Carnival needed no help to keep everything frozen (the ZBT "Zoonie Boonie" was the BEST beer blast- -20 degrees, 40 MPH wind, plenty of cold beer).

Clarkson is a fine school, and you should be ok with getting in.

Now to your specific question... "what makes you different" is cliched, but the reality is that you need to find some event in your life that makes you different. back in my day, the 'techies' wore pocket protectors, had coke-bottle glasses, and were geeks. The 'staties' were a bunch of pothead long-hairs who liked to party. There was a stereotype, and Clarkson now is attempting to get away from that.

It is hard to offer concrete help, but I do wish you the best.

BTW, if things are still the same, the "Raymondville Tavern" (white cinderblock building with red neon sign "Bar" in the window) is a good place to stay away from.)
