NAtional anthem?

"O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980, 100 years after it was first sung on June 24, 1880. The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known composer; French lyrics to accompany the music were written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. The song gained steadily in popularity. Many English versions have appeared over the years. The version on which the official English lyrics are based was written in 1908 by Mr. Justice Robert Stanley Weir. The official English version includes changes recommended in 1968 by a Special Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Commons. The French lyrics remain unaltered.

Many people think of Calixa Lavallée as an obscure music teacher who dashed off a patriotic song in a moment of inspiration. The truth is quite different. Lavallée was, in fact, known as "Canada's national musician" and it was on this account that he was asked to compose the music for a poem written by Judge Adolphe-Basile Routhier.

The occasion was the "Congrès national des Canadiens-Français" in1880, which was being held at the same time as the St. Jean-Baptiste Day celebrations.

National anthem question?

National anthem question?

During WWII, the nation was very patriotic and the propaganda machine was

completely devoted toward giving us the idea that we are all part of the effort

and that we all needed to pull together. We did the pledge to the flag every

day in school and the national anthem was heard frequently.

Kate Smith had a nationwide radio show at noon and her theme song

was: "God Bless America." She sang it every day. She was the Oprah of her day.

Playing it today in military theaters would lend an air of loyalty. Gives

you time to get settled in too.

Do you think singing the national anthem every day...?

Do you think singing the national anthem every day...?

For the first question, you must ask a vet who has fought for their country. However in America, it is obvious more Soldiers and GI's support Entertainers that are willing to sing their country's anthem then stand by the constitution to condemn a war that their military is forced to fight.

Funny, you rarely hear of all the good we are doing in IRAQ and Afghanistan but always the negative from our liberal media who leads the chant to destroy any respect in a countries quest to promote freedom from tyranny and inhuman leaders.

Something the United Nations was made to stop but has never done so in over 60 years of being a useless organization that sucks money down a gopher hole.

To me, it does show i support my country and it's brave military that puts their lives on the line everyday they put on that uniform. But then despite what the liberals in this country try to take away from me, I still have pride in The U>S>A> although it does take a daily beating anymore.

I would not force kids to sing the national anthem nor pray in school. However i believe they should have that opportunity to do so.

I believe GOD knows our hearts and our minds, do we need to physically show others what we are, who we are and what we believe?

No. That should be evident in our daily actions.

Not forced believes mandated into our children.

That also goes for the concept of evolution as well but then that is another subject for another time.

I will add this though: What is taught to our children the most is what shapes their future beliefs as an adult. Schools know this and will teach contradictory lessons from what Good parents would want their kids to learn.

So who is at fault, a parent that allows for others to teach their children, patriotism, loyalty, religious beliefs and even sex and attitudes towards others or leave it up to the school yard and uncaring teachers?
