What is up with the pole sitters this year?

That's why I am for impound races.

Race trim so different from Qualifying trim. I mean they use different oil, tape up the gazoo and so forth. Qualifying trim is so different.

Yes winning P1 means nothing these days.

The haters are out tonight. I get thumbs down for telling the truth about Qualifying trim?

Usually 45-50. The Daytona 500 usually has around 60.

They have traditional quals for all races except the Daytona 500. In the Daytona 500, you have to be inside the top 35 in car owner's points from last season. If you aren't, you are part of a whole different race. The Sunday a week before the 500 (or this Sunday) they have traditional, single-car qualifying. The top 3 that are not in the top 35 are locked into the race after single-car quals. The rest that did not make it on speed try to race their way in the Thursday before the Daytona 500. There are 2 races, and the top 2 non-top-35 drivers in that race go on to race in the 500. The final spot is the most recent past champion that is not locked in already (in this case, Kurt Busch. If he's able to qualify or race his way in, it's Dale Jarrett. If he's able to qualify or race his way in, it's Bill Elliot.)

For drivers in the top 35, the pole is determined by speed on single-car quals. For the Daytona 500, only the top 2 cars are determined by single-car runs, and the rest are determined by finishing position in the Gatorade Duels.

After the fifth race, it goes to this year's top 35.

The Past Champion's Provisional is a way to get a past champion in the race incase they can't make it and are not already locked into the race. There is a limit of 6 per year.

All races are 43 cars unless there are less than 43 entered.

Qualifying is almost always on the Friday before the race in a single session.
