Your Quaker is probably already adjusted to you coming and going at weird times, but is lonely during the day.
Is this new bird for you or for Cys? If it is for you, then get it. Put it close to your so that they can see each other and interact. If they can see each other but not touch, generally it will keep yours bonded to you instead of the other bird.
If it is only as company for Cys, don't do it. He/she might be lonely.. but simply turning on the TV helps stop separation anxiety. And its double fun because it generally will teach you r bird new words or tunes. Radios work just as well.. but for some reason, mine prefers the TV.
As for sexing the bird.. only a DNA test can truly reveal the sex, but here are some generalizations. Males are generally slightly smaller, the are more vibrant, and sweeter. Also.. they have a better capacity for speech. This comes from their very nature.. in the wild it is the males that must call for the females!
I have had one of each, and the differences were amazingly easy to see. You might visit a breeder who has a male female pair and watch them closely. Soon one will stand out as matching yours... this is generally the sex that yours is. Like I said.. not 100%, but it's a great way to guess.
