What are your secrets at avoiding temptation on Fast Days?

We spend a lot of the day in shul, so it isn't so bad. Then, by the time we get home, it's around 4-ish, so truthfully I just curl up into a ball on my bed and read or sleep. Reading helps because I just lose myself in the book; sleeping, for obvious reasons.

Fast dates for 5769:

Oct. 2 - Tzom Gedaliah

Jan. 6 - Asara b'Tevet

Mar. 9 - Ta'anit Esther

Apr. 8 - Ta'anit Bechorot (if you're eligible)

July 9 - Tzom Tammuz

July 30 - Tisha b'Av

Do I have to fast on The Fast Of Gedaliah and Yom Kippur?

Rabbinic law allows the use of medicine on fast days, and even insists on it. A famous rabbi ate on Yom Kippur during a cholera epidemic. Therefore, if you take the medication with water, you are not breaking any law.
