Wow, reading your question brought back some memories, both good ones and not-so-fun ones.

I know things are a little bit scary, but my suggestion is to join clubs that interest you. You will be surprised at how many clubs are in high school (if there are not that many clubs in your future school, then shame on that high school!) Clubs are a great way to meet people. There are clubs for kids who like to do community service and clubs for those who perform well in school, and there are other clubs that are for nerds and dorks (still cool, though!) Go ahead and explore. Example of clubs include Drama, Interact, Japanese Club, etc.

The first day at any school will be scary, and that is okay, because it really is a mystery out there. Finding your classroom will be a little bit difficult (at least, it was for me), but soon going from class to class will be like clockwork. Pretty quickly, you will get used to how things are run and I am sure you will be able to make friends. I am guessing that you are wondering who you are going to sit with during lunch or break, and maybe the first couple of lunches will be awkward, but in time, you will get to know your classmates and turn them into buddies. If you are shy, try not to be. I know that may be hard, but it is good practice to turn away from shyness.

Most importantly, though, is to just do well in school. School may be a social place, but it is a place to learn. Study hard and have fun as well. Take classes that interest you. And, of course, stay above the influence if you get what I mean. In class, do not be afraid to speak up and ask questions and really get to know your teachers, even if it is the first day. Your teachers should try to give you a brief overview of the class during the first day, but if they start lecturing, do not forget to write down good notes.

Why is everything considered "dork" these days?

Apparently everything that isn't social is dorky...?

it's really annoying. it's not like anybody is with everybody all the time. everyone is alone sometimes, and you can't always be on facebook/watching TV. and if you can't be alone for more than an hour, you have a serious issue.

I also hear, a bit more often, "you need to get a life" or something referring to one's lack of life.
