Sports day - helppp!!?
First off well done for participating!
I myself used to run the 1500 and 800m, and was a successful runner getting to the nationals.
My advice would be to try and run as much as possible over the next week, but rest the day before, make sure you stretch and be careful of the terrain so as not to injure yourself!
Start of with smaller jogs and gradually get longer, but remember these races do not normally last too long so you don't need to be running for over 40 Min's, condition yourself. Do you have a friend that would be willing to help you run with you or cycle? So you could face competition as you always run faster when trying to keep up!
As for eating, healthy eating is obvious, on the day try to have carbohydrates in your body and before the race make sure you drink plenty especially if it is hot as you loose a lot of hydration when running, very good energy bursts are things like jelly babies, if you cant get those then wine gums are okay.
On the day, everyone says pace yourself but make sure your pace also suits the other runners if you want to do well. Don't go speeding off but at the same time don't but yourself in a hard position by dropping back, try staying in the front group if you can and push yourself don't give up it will be worth it, best of luck!
