Why do religious people feel diversity is a bad idea?

Why do religious people feel diversity is a bad idea?

I strongly disagree. I know that the Catholic Church strongly practices justice and peace transcending national, racial, ethnic, and other boundaries. Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton, and Cesar Chavez are all from very different backgrounds.

Our National Day of Prayer is a day designated by the United States Congress as a day when all Americans regardless of faith are asked to come together and pray in their own way. It is held on the first Thursday in May. A 'National Day of Prayer Task Force' was created in order to coordinate the event.

The first World Day of Prayer for Peace was held in Assisi on October 27, 1986, when more than 120 representatives of different religions and Christian denominations spent a day together with fasting and praying to their God or Gods. The only religion organization that was not there were Jehovah's Witnesses.

I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

The national day of Tolerance?

The national day of Tolerance?

What a hideously foul idea, who came up with that one.

Perhaps people should think a bit more about what they say when then call for 'tolerance'.

I really think this dreadful word should be banned from all diversity and equal opportunities policies and should be seen as what it is, a license to continue to believe that discrimination against certain groups and individuals is acceptable.

To tolerate is to put up with something, even though you may not like it, 'I tolerate going to the dentist, but don't enjoy the experience.'

To tolerate someone would be to put up with them. 'I can't stand her, I have to tolerate her because she is my manager at work.'

Clearly this illustrates hiding discrimination, change the sentence adding 'I can't stand her, she is ......, I have to put up with her because she is my manager.'

Insert a discriminatory remark as the reason for not liking her and you can see what is wrong with tolerance.

Stop hiding discrimination and challenge it, campaign against tolerance and campaign for acceptance of others through education and understanding, otherwise those that are 'tolerating' fester hate.

Sorry, this is a bit of a rant. But as someone that often finds themselves on the end of 'tolerance', I find it distasteful.
