The EU is to let more refugees settle

Today, around the world there are more than 10 million refugees. Add another 10 million to that who for whatever reason are not counted. The world attempts to deal with about 500,000 per year, but unfortunately the number of refugees keeps increasing.

Look at the world in a different way. Imagine if there were no borders. The world would soon balance its population to those countries that had more, and eventually all countries would be equal in population density, food and resources.

But that is not as good as it seems. The pressure put on the system to feed those people would draw money away from areas like medical research, and success in other areas that later helps the people.

Creating refugees is done by their own countries, or war with neighbouring countries. Famine, drought and a cultural mentality to have more children than they can feed does not help either.

The world population is 6.8 billion people and only China has addressed the issue of population growth.

Unfortunately countries are like ships. Some are driven badly and crash then start to sink. If that ship has 1,000 people aboard, you can not save all of them with a ship that can carry 50.

It is very sad that people are suffering around the world. My wife comes from the Philippines where 20 million people wake up with no food and no money each day. You can tell them to stop having more children because that will reduce the pressure on them to supply food, but they will not listen.

Part of the reason countries like the USA, Britain and Australia have succeeded is due to having lower numbers of children. It has allowed us to spend money on better lives and technologies than burdening us with mouths to feed.

Over and above Earthly causes of refugees, there are people in power who care little for their own people. You can try to help a few but you unfortunately can not help all.

Consider this as an example. You decide to take one refugee. You can afford that. Now you take one family of refugees. You start to suffer a little but with careful planning you can cope. What happens when you take 5 families into your home? Surely you will ALL start to suffer terribly.

The global economic meltdown has put millions of people in the USA onto the street. In a way, they are now refugees in their own country. The UK has had similar problems with housing foreclosures.

Governments have such a difficult time in finding solutions for these problems. Imagine trying to help other countries while at the same time ensuring that the people in your own country are safe for now and the future in good times and bad. It is not an easy task.

In the same way you want to help, others want to hurt people.

Instead of expecting the EU to fix the problem, why don't you make a positive change yourself.

Sponsor a child, a goat bank, cow bank, give to a micro finance organisation, or help a site like this

Why don't you help this organisation?

There are many people trying to address the issues of hunger, starvation, and refugees who are already in those countries and doing a marvellous job.

Consider helping them help themselves.

This is Doctors without borders. They do a brilliant job.

Don't get angry, get active!!!!!

A reply to HELLSBELLS. It is lovely to see a mind of your calibre online. If you cannot provide something productive, then please leave other people alone. While our opinions may not agree with yours, we do have the right to express them. The point of this site is to offer your answer on the question, not to GRADE the work done by others.

Do you think the Australian government is doing enough for refugees/ asylum seekers?

Do you think the Australian government is doing enough for refugees/ asylum seekers?

No I don't think the Australian government is doing enough for the refugees. But there are other groups like Refugee Council of Australia, Edmund Rice Center, Refugee Claimants Support Centre, Jesuit Refugee Service, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre are working great for the cause. The United Nations are also working in this field. Through the World Refugee Day celebrated today, they are helping out the refugees world over.
