Shall we have a World Day of Prayer?

What`s the point when there is no god,,rather silly isn`t it,,

Prayer....?

Prayer....?

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

as it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

if I surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life

and supremely happy with Him

Forever in the next.

Amen.

How many times a day do Muslims REALLY pray?

How many times a day do Muslims REALLY pray?

MUST READ:

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

All Praises belong to Allah (God), Lord of the worlds!

Prayer (called Salah in Arabic) is mandatory for a Muslim to pray 5 times a day. It is a 'pillar' of Islam; i.e. it supports the Muslim's faith just like a pillar supports the structure of a building. It's the second most important pillar (after the shahada: the declaration of faith that 'none is worthy of worship except God (Allah), Who has no partner, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the Messenger and slave of Allah'). The Muslim who lives in Western society where it isn't always convenient to pray on time, due to work, school, lack of religious commodities, surroundings, etc., must still do his utmost to pray on time. Missing a prayer is a major sin in Islam, that is only forgivable through sincere repentance. There are very few legitimate reasons (like being in a coma, brain damaged, deaf and blind, etc...) that can exempt one from praying; not even (normal) illnesses, or on a long journey or even in the midst of war.

The Muslim believes that the only purpose for the existence of Mankind is to worship Allah, the Exalted, through doing good and forbidding evil. Every time we pray we renew the first pillar (shahada) by testifying that God is the only Being to be worshiped, and we are reminded of His commandments.

The word 'salah' occurs about 500 times in the Qu'ran [1].

Allah says in the Qur'an: "

56. I have not created Mankind and the Jinn (Spirits), EXCEPT that they should worship Me.

57. No Sustenance do I require of them, nor do I require that they should feed Me.

58. Verily, Allâh is the All-Provider (the One Who gives Sustenance), Owner of Power, the Most Strong

" (Qur'an 51:56-58)

He, the Most Wise, also said:

"Verily the prayers restrain one from immorality and wrongdoing." (Qur'an 29:45)

"But celebrate the praises of your Lord, and be of those who prostrate themselves in adoration." (Qur'an 15:98)

"Successful indeed are the Believers, those who humble themselves in their prayers" (Qur'an 23:1-2).

+ Praying is a means of purification of the soul from sins.

Said the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace: He (sal allahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "If a person had a river outside his door and he bathed in it five times a day, do you think he would have any filth left on him?" The people said, "No filth would remain on him whatsoever." The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said, "that is like the five daily prayers: Allah wipes away the sins by them." (Bukhari and Muslim).

He, peace be upon him, also said in a narration: "The difference between the believer and the disbeliever is the salah"

-------------------------------------------------------

It's not 3 TO 5 times a day. Muslims MUST pray at 'least' the 5 daily (at dawn, afternoon, midday, sunset, and night) prayers (Fajr, Dhur, 'Asr, Maghrib, 'Ishaa, respectively).

In addition to the 5 mandatory prayers, there are voluntary prayers that may be performed before and/or after the obligatory prayers. The average Muslim prays these voluntary prayers as they are very encouraged, for they help to get closer to Allah, and to correct errors (due to lack of focus, or inadvertance) that may have transpired during the mandatory prayers. There are at least 10 voluntary prayers that the Muslim may pray daily. Each salah can last for about 4-15 minutes depending on the type of prayer and the chosen passages in the Qur'an recited.

What you call 'short prayers' are called du'a (or supplication) in Islam. These are words that Muslims are encouraged to repeat throughout the day to remember Allah, the Exalted, when outside the prayer. Establishing the remembrance (Thikr) of Allah, the Light, is very important in Islam.

Allah, the Hidden, says in Qur'an:

"And be not you as those who forgot Allah and therefore He caused them to forget their own souls. Such are the losers."

[Qur'an 59:19]

"Therefore, remember Me; I will remember you. Give thanks to Me and reject Me not."

[Qur'an 2:152]

"And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them."

[Qur'an 7:180]

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said:

"The example of one who remembers Allah and someone who does not, is like the example between the living and the dead."

[Sahih al-Bukhari; 11:208, Muslim; 1:539]

Allah, the Exalted, said: "I am near to the thought of My servant as he thinks about Me, and I am with him as he remembers Me. And if he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My Heart, and if he remembers Me in assembly I remember him in an assembly (amongst the angels), better than his (remembrance), and if he draws near Me by the span of a palm, I draw near him by the cubit, and if he draws near Me by the cubit I draw near him by the space (covered by) two hands (spread out beyond shoulder-width). And if he walks towards Me, I rush towards him."

[Hadith Qudsi]

The Prophet (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam) said, "Shall I not tell you of the best of your actions, and the most pure of them with your King, and the most exalted of them in your ranks, those which are better for you than your meeting your enemy and striking their necks and they striking your necks (i.e. Jihad)?" They said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah." He said, "the remembrance of Allah."

[Hadith - from Tafseer of Ibn Juzayy- From Kitab at-Tasheel li Uloom at-Tanzeel of Al-Qasim ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Juzayy al-Kalbi. He was a European from Granada in Andalusia, Spain.] [2]

'Abdullah ibn Busr reported a man said, "Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wa salam), the laws of Islam are too much for me. Tell me something I can cling to." He said, "Your tongue should remain moist with the remembrance of Allah."

[at-Tirmidhi] [3]

"Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhum) reported:

the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wa salam) said,

"There are two statements that are light for the tongue to remember, heavy in the Scales (of deeds done in this life) and are dear to the Merciful: SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allahil-Adhim [Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah, the Greatest is free from imperfection)]."

[Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim] [4]

Abu Musa reported that the Messenger of Allah (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, "If one man has some dirhams (currency in some Arab countries) in his possession which he shares and another remembers Allah, the one who remembers Allah is better." One variant has, "There is no charity better than the remembrance of Allah."
