How often should people visit a cemetery?

I visit the cemetery on my mum's birthday, mothers day, christmas, easter and the anniversary of her death. I also go to the cemetery every couple of weeks to clean her stone and lay flowers on her grave.

I think since you don't visit the graves of your own family members is fine, that's just not what you do. But just because you don't, and to use your children isn't an excuse to use in order not to visit the graves on your husbands side. The real reason is just as simply as "You just don't want to go there on a holiday" and that's a better reason then any. Now that said, you SHOULD go in support of you husband who you say loved these people. if he would like you to go, then you should support HIM, and stop thinking of it as doing it for your Father in-law. If your husband says its OK if you stay home then stay, but do this for the man you married and the Father of your children.

History belongs to everyone, so therefore to go and visit an old cemetery is not disrespectful in any way.

I understand that you have not said so, but if you are going from a haunted legend point of view, here are a few pointers you might want to employ during your visit:

* Remember that this cemetery is like a place of rest, just as your bedroom is. Be respectful.

* If you intend to make photos, ask permission from the people who rest there. Its a nice thing to do, plus you might be surprised at the results you get.

* Should a burial take place, get into your vehicle and wait until the funeral is complete or leave and come back wen they are gone. Don't take any photos while the party is in the area.

* Take a rubbish bag with you to discard soda bottles, snack items, batteries etc. If you see what is trash, pick it up and discard it properly. If you smoke, do it outside the cemetery.

* Covering all bases here: If you are planning a visit at night, please have permission to be there in writing. Do not go alone. A fall would be bad, you might not be able to get help to you otherwise. If you see or hear anything that could be paranormal, it is best to have another opinion.

* Do not move or remove anything from any grave site or cemetery. It is alright to set upright a pot of flowers but do not move them away.

* Be mind full of the hours of operation for the cemetery. Some now are closed at a certain hour in an effort to stop vandalism. You can get locked in for the night.

* About vandals: it is my opinion that those who would vandalize the helpless, will also rob, cheat and steal. They are the lowest. That is another reason to carry someone with you. If you see evidence of vandalism, leave and report it to the nearest law enforcement agency.

* As you leave, thank the community for the photos and tell them to remain. Tell them that you will return to visit. That will help prevent those who might follow you but it is just a nice thing to do.

Hopefully, these are things you will find helpful. There are many cemeteries in Georgia that have paranormal activity in them. I ope you enjoy your trip!
