Where did the ’putting money under your pillow when you lose a tooth,’ idea originate?

Losing a baby tooth is a sure sign that kids are growing up. And the most common way to celebrate this event is with a visit from the Tooth Fairy.

The origin of this benevolent fairy who swipes the teeth from under pillows and leaves coins (or cash, these days) isn’t clearly defined, although it could be linked to a 18th century French fairy tale("La Bonne Petite Souris"). The story, where a mouse changes into a fairy to help a queen defeat an evil king by hiding under his pillow and knocking out his teeth, is a bit more disturbing than our current narrative. The Tooth Fairy as we know it started making appearances in American plays, books, and cartoons in the early part of the 20th century

Although February 28 is unofficially National Tooth Fairy Day, here are a few alternative ways to mark this milestone in your child’s life, if you’d rather not perpetuate the myth of the Tooth Fairy in your household.

Other cultures around the world have different traditions when it comes to rituals associated with the disposal of baby teeth. In early Europe, teeth would often be buried or burned to prevent witches from casting spells on your child. In Japan, to ensure that new teeth with grow straight, one should throw lost lower teeth into the air and upper teeth to be thrown down to the ground (outside, obviously).

We just elected a new Congress.

The last Congress is spending more money that it doesn't have every day. Apparently they are hoping the Tooth Fairy will leave something on their pillows.

AUSSIES... do you think Andrew Wilkie still believes...?

Lol, I am not sure whether you want an answer to that specific question, but no, I doubt that he believes in any of those.

Wilkie, and all of the rest of the cross-benchers were fools to believe in Gillard in the first place. Tony Crook and Bob Katter were both genuine, as they sided with the Coalition, which the majority of their electorates wanted. Adam Bandt is a Green, and they are just as bad as the ALP, if not worse. I don't think that trust was ever the issue with Rob Oakeshott and Tony Windsor, as they just wanted to spite the Nationals, and get revenge on them, as they're past members. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face, as neither will be re-elected come next election.

Now, Wilkie is a totally different case altogether. His was a most unexpected win. Labor held his seat (Denison, in Tasmania) very comfortably, and despite Wilkie coming third behind both Labor and Liberal, he was elected very barely (51.21 to 48.79 on the 2PP). To be fair, his decision to support Labor was fair enough, as Labor did get more of the primary vote in his electorate, and MPs are supposed to represent their electorates (which cannot be said for Oakeshott and Windsor).

Now, as for actually believing in Gillard's word, one would have to be absolutely stupid, seeing all of her "broken promises", ie lies. The woman is an absolute compulsive liar. Just watch this clip below to see:

She swore blind that she had absolute faith in, and loyalty, to Kevin Rudd. Then a few days later, she stabs him in the back. Her word means absolutely nothing. Well actually, it means the opposite of what she actually says.

I understand that Andrew Wilkie is devastated that his reforms will not be realised, and that Gillard broke her word. Well, maybe he might now understand how the majority of Australians felt when he, Oakeshott and Windsor helped Gillard pass through the carbon tax that she promised to never introduce.
