Prices for plane seats vary, especially in Economy Class. So it depends very much on when they want to travel. Most of the cheap fares to the Gold Coast for the next few weeks will be sold out.

If seats are available you should be able to find prices on the Qantas, Virgin Blue or Jetstar websitea.

Have just checked the Qantas website using the next two Saturdays as the departure and return dates. No Qantas flights are available but the website showed Jetstar flights ranging from $132 to $242 per person going up, and $83 to $232 pp returning.

Take in a free performance at The Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage every evening at 6pm. Acts include everything from performances by the National Symphony Orchestra to gospel groups to jazz musicians to poetry slams.

Feel the beat of a local tradition: head to Meridian Hill Park on Sundays (weather-permitting) between 3 and 9pm to hear the famous drum circle, a fixture in the park for more than 40 years that brings together people together from all different backgrounds to hear drum beats and watch African dancing. For a hands-on experience, bring your own drum to join in.

Check out free, live music at the National Gallery of Art on Sunday evenings at 6:30pm. Concerts feature choral, Afghan, opera music and more, and are held in the West Building (6th St. & Constitution Ave, NW entrance). Head over to George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium, where throughout the year, free shows are sprinkled throughout the performance calendar. * is there a dvd she has been talking about renting? or a movie she's been dying to see. This would mean a lot to her, especially if its the type of movie you would NEVER choose to watch - it shows you care about what she likes
