Anyone ever have Sleep Apnea??

dr_murukuti is completely wrong in ever way. Not only do heavy people have this disease, but infants to the elderly alike. THIS DISEASE DOESN'T DISCRIMINATE!!

My source quotes "Despite the difference in the root cause of each type, in all three, people with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, sometimes hundreds of times during the night and often for a minute or longer.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is caused by a blockage of the airway, usually when the soft tissue in the rear of the throat collapses and closes during sleep. In central sleep apnea, the airway is not blocked but the brain fails to signal the muscles to breathe. Mixed apnea, as the name implies, is a combination of the two. With each apnea event, the brain briefly arouses people with sleep apnea in order for them to resume breathing, but consequently sleep is extremely fragmented and of poor quality.

Sleep apnea is very common, as common as adult diabetes, and affects more than twelve million Americans, according to the National Institutes of Health. Risk factors include being male, overweight, and over the age of forty, but sleep apnea can strike anyone at any age, even children. Yet still because of the lack of awareness by the public and healthcare professionals, the vast majority remain undiagnosed and therefore untreated, despite the fact that this serious disorder can have significant consequences.

Untreated, sleep apnea can cause high blood pressure and other cardiovascular disease, memory problems, weight gain, impotency, and headaches. Moreover, untreated sleep apnea may be responsible for job impairment and motor vehicle crashes. Fortunately, sleep apnea can be diagnosed and treated. Several treatment options exist, and research into additional options continues. "

My parents and I all have sleep apnea, and I have seen infants who have this disease as well. The device we use to control it is called a CPAP, or 'continuous positive airway pressure'.

This website will give you a picture of the CPAP as well as give you some basic information on it. Truly, sleep apnea isn't a big deal, although it takes a week or two to get used to sleeping with a CPAP.

What does it mean if my wife has MS?

What does it mean if my wife has MS?

I am a 23 year old female who was diagnosed with MS back in December of 2007. My diagnoses came as a shock, especially since the only symptom prior to this was migraine headaches.

There are different kinds of MS, knowing which one makes it a little easier to find information about her specific disease.

Each type has the same effect, some just do it a little faster.

Here is a list of the 4 types of MS:

Relapsing-Remitting MS

People with this type of MS experience clearly defined attacks of worsening neurologic function. These attacks—which are called relapses, flare-ups, or exacerbations —are followed by partial or complete recovery periods (remissions), during which no disease progression occurs. Approximately 85% of people are initially diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS.

Primary-Progressive MS

This disease course is characterized by slowly worsening neurologic function from the beginning—with no distinct relapses or remissions. The rate of progression may vary over time, with occasional plateaus and temporary minor improvements. Approximately 10% of people are diagnosed with primary-progressive MS.

Secondary-Progressive MS

Following an initial period of relapsing-remitting MS, many people develop a secondary-progressive disease course in which the disease worsens more steadily, with or without occasional flare-ups, minor recoveries (remissions), or plateaus. Before the disease-modifying medications became available, approximately 50% of people with relapsing-remitting MS developed this form of the disease within 10 years. Long-term data are not yet available to determine if treatment significantly delays this transition.

Progressive-Relapsing MS

In this relatively rare course of MS (5%), people experience steadily worsening disease from the beginning, but with clear attacks of worsening neurologic function along the way. They may or may not experience some recovery following these relapses, but the disease continues to progress without remissions.

Once you have figured out what type of MS she has, then it is time to get on treatment. Personally I have Relapsing Remitting MS and am on Copaxone (I do not like needles but it comes with an autoject, you basically push a button and it does the work for you) My husband also helped me with this on the days I chickened out.

Try not to get overwhelmed, and don't think everything you read about MS relates to your wife. Everyone with MS is different, their symptoms usually aren't the same, their treatment isn't the same, and attacks aren't the same. The national MS society's webpage is great for accurate information, and you can find a group in your area if you find you need a support group!

Am I going insane?(mental health)?

EDITED - in addition to the phone numbers I gave you can contact a Klove pastor by email here

For you or anyone else reading this who may be feeling depressed or suicidal.

Jesus Christ wants a relationship with you more than He wants a religion. There are now many good churches which recognize this. Jesus Christ loves you dearly, I am not trying to preach to you, I am speaking as a former troubled soul who went through many struggles, but found life in The Lord Jesus Christ. I want you to prosper in your soul like I have. I am nothing special, I didn't grow up in a very religious household, my sins have been too many to count,I was never good at anything and until God lead me to my wife in 2011, women wanted nothing to do with me. I'd meet girls who would lead me on for a while, then decide I wasn't worth there time, making me feel worthless. I found God and He rescued me from this misery, and I am thankful to Him for this.

. He has sent me around the world, in fact I'm writing to you from China right now, the seventh country He has brought me too. And I'm NOBODY! I have never been good at anything and God just miraculously takes me to amazing places.

Believe in The Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. We all make mistakes, ask Jesus to forgive you of all your sins like I did when I was 19, and ask Him to help change your life. Tell Him you believe He Is The Son Of God who died on the cross, and rose again to save you and tell Him you believe that He is alive today and hears your prayers. Ask Him to take away the pain and to give you the strength to live this life as He has called you to, ask Him to take control of the throne of your life, and to make you the kind of man He wants you to be. I did this when I was 19 and everything changed, I had a new strength and outlook on life to get me through the roughest times in life. Faith in Christ has kept my family strong through a very sudden and tragic death most recently, as well as healing from illness and injury. My cousin had a tumor on his ear, my grandmother and he church prayed and it disappeared, I know this for a fact it was in my family. My cousin was in a car wreck and flew out of the vehicle and landed face first into a barbed wire fence nearly severing his nose off his face. Doctors said he would be blind in one eye, Jesus Christ said otherwise and he sees clearly and his nose is fine. My cousin suffered from losing children while still in her womb, the doctors told her she could not have children. Jesus Christ said the doctors were wrong and she now has the strongest one and a half year old you've ever seen. He drags heavy bags as big as he is, and pushed furniture around at his daycare. He's like Bam Bam from the Flinstones.

I'm not trying to preach to you, I just want you to have what I have.

There are spiritual and and psychological realities related the problems that you have been going through. Get professional help as well as spiritually guidance and counseling from a church.
