Kid's Day!? Every day is kid's day!
Whats with kids now-a-days bringing weapons to fights?
Kids grow up these days with such a warped sense and idea of consequences. They play video games, watch movies and television and see people get shot, stabbed, have horrific car accidents, or beaten up and everyone survives or comes out with hardly a scratch. That's not quite real life though and that's one reason why so much of this goes on and goes so far and beyond just a fist fight.
Secondly many of these kids come from broken homes, have little or nothing to look forward to and no future and maybe even sometimes live in bad parts of town. I know if I had grown up in East St. Louis, had no father, was black and surrounded by all the crime and drugs that many of those young people down there are I would hardly be an exemplary student or citizen either.
Thirdly I think it also goes to the times in general that we culturally live in and I see how good parents struggle with raising their children to grow up right. I personally know someone that just had their son taken off to a boot camp to try and keep him out of trouble and away from other bad elements and influences. Both his parents are professionals, she a nurse and he a social worker. That's a pretty drastic and expensive course of action but it was the only option left to them in an effort to keep their son out of getting into more serious trouble with other bad elements.
I myself just had to restrain a big 10 year old at my school who went nuts and attacked and continued to try and attack his mother not just once but several times. Needless to say he is no longer a student but a child that does that has some serious behavioral and mental issues and mom can't physically handle him and it took forty-five minutes of keeping him on a chair to get him calmed down enough so that she could then drive the kid home safely without the fear of him doing something stupid like attacking her while driving.
When I was growing up you might have a fight or scrap with someone but nobody got seriously hurt or anything more serious than a bloody nose, black eye, or a few lose teeth. After that you might not be the best of friends either but one person did not go out and get a gun or knife and then try to kill the other guy. Its not quite that way now and kids carry things beyond that way to much and way to often and also usually without considering the consequences until afterwords when its to late to do so.

Doesn't sound any different from the way some kids behaved when I was at school 30yrs ago....."kids these days" get a bad press and if you're a teacher you should know better than to make such sweeping generalisations.
