What is the secret to great coffee?

The biggest problem is probably the machine.

Most coffee makers can't get water hot enough to brew properly (usually only 175-190F, but you need it around 205F). The coffee is probably not good either. I had my share of the Army coffee & it wasn't "strong" as much as it was bitter. Most people put more grounds in, but that just makes it worse.

Simplest thing to do is buy a electric kettle to boil water and get a french press (I like Bodum). If you can, fresh ground is always best.

Put 2tbsp coffee per 6 oz of the press, let it steep for 4 minutes (3 minutes if you get the really small press) and smoothly press the screen down. You'll find a small amount of sludge at the bottom of the cup, but it makes the simplest & richest coffee out there.

Just watch out, everyone else may want you to make them a cup. Keep a fake hand near the pot with a note saying "Last guy to touch my coffee".

That should keep them away.

italian activities and ideas for international day?

italian activities and ideas for international day?

You could have a big map of Italy behind your stall or table. On your table yo could have various traditional foods or dishes.

You could have some olives or olive oil from PUGLIA

Blood Oranges from SICILIA

Parma ham from Parma (Emilia-Romagna)

Mortadella from Bologna (Emilia-Romagna)

Polenta from Val D'Aosta

Pizza Margherita from Campania

There are so many foods but i am trying to think of things you may be able to find. you could put some GRISSINI (breadsticks) or some BRUSCHETTA on your table for people to try. You could dress your table with a table cloth representing the colours of the italian flag. Put a basket holding garlic, chilli's, tomatoes and bell peppers and as a display or centre piece. If you are allowed to have wine on the table you could have a couple of bottles (if not get some empty bottles, of ITALIAN wine of course!) you could have bowls of olives as well. And pieces of Parmesan cheese. A packet of italian coffee. you could have oranges cut into pieces. Have italian flags around your stall.

This may help for traditional foods:

You could also dress as Roman women in toga's:

Or in a traditional costume a bit like this:

you could also have some italian music playing.

I like General Foods International Coffees. They are sweetened, flavored instant coffee. I get the sugar free ones myself.
