Your thoughts on this proverb?

It is better to be a leader than a follower is basically saying.

Better to be bold and courageous for a day than like a sheep to slaughter for 100 years. "A brave man dies but once, a

coward dies a thousand deaths." Checking-out ya name you

either read it or heard it on a trip to Italy.

Why would Jesus followers risk their very lives if it was all a lie?

Why would Jesus followers risk their very lives if it was all a lie?

Exactly what I've been saying for so long!

For the first three centuries of the church's existence, it was persecuted brutally by the Roman Empire. Christians were tortured and murdered for their faith.

The Emperor Nero used Christians as human candles to delight his guests at garden parties. These were people who could have renounced their faith under threat of slow, hideous death, but held firm. Why? They clearly had witnessed something that made their dying worthwhile! Remember, that was only around thirty years after the events of the Gospels and Acts. Many would have actually seen Jesus! If He hadn't existed, they wouldn't have been Christians. If He existed, died, but failed to show later after He claimed He would, they wouldn't have been Christians.

If Jesus was not who He claimed to be, that little cult would have died with the false messiah at the cross. If He didn't exist, it would never have even happened.

For the church to have survived deliberate, ongoing attempts to crush it in such a brutal fashion, there has to have been a truth worth believing.

if Christianity was an insignificant religion with just a handful of followers, would they be so quick to?

'Ten Reasons' to believe in the Resurrection:

1. Testimony of the texts. Scripture, Tradition and the Church thereafter all agree that Christ rose.

2. Testimony of the Twelve. Cowardly apostles fleeing became courageous Christians preaching, and they unanimously said it was because they saw Christ alive.

3. Transformation of Saul. St. Paul went from persecutor to believer after seeing Christ alive.

4. No early Church debate. The early Church debated many fundamental things, but not the Resurrection.

5. Centuries of martyrs. Christians, from the Church’s first days to our own day, have been willing to die for their conviction that Christ rose from the dead.

6. Diverse sources. Gospel writers included different details, and material from different sources — all of which agreed on the fact of the Resurrection.

7. Eyewitnesses. St. Paul spoke of how Christ appeared, alive, to 500 at once — and he was writing not long after the event occurred.

8. Non-Christian historical accounts. Tacitus and Josephus mention Christ — and describe how Christians endured torture when simply renouncing him would end it.

9. Not dead again. Other resurrections are mentioned in the Bible — chiefly Lazarus — but of these Christ’s is unique in that it is never suggested that he died again.

10. Rise of a historical religion. Christianity spread and grew even though, as St. Paul told Christians from the beginning, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain.”
