Computer Security Day

Security is a vital consideration whenever using computer systems, the web or indeed any electronic products. Use Computer Security Day to make sure that your passwords are regularly up-to-date, that the private information is safe and sound, which your systems are safe.

Computer Security Jobs?

There is currently good money to be made in the computer security industry and I believe that this will continue to be true in the future.

You can generally look at "System Administrator" jobs and add about 10% for a "Security Specialist" type job. This is for the type of job where you will be the guy/gal in the company that everyone goes to when they have questions about security.

There are different jobs with the security industry however. If you work as part of a penetration testing team or a tiger team then your rate could go up quite significantly depending on the reputation of your team.

Other security consultants specialise in approaching companies who have just had a major, public security breach. These companies are often unable to do business because the leak is still happening. They will be losing tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands every day they are not doing business. These guys can command very high prices.

There are jobs similar to this but for home users instead of big businesses. Some people start out by advertising for customers whose computers are slow and infected with viruses/spyware and almost unusable. Someone with an unusable computers tends to be more interested in paying more to have it fixed quickly.

Experience, reputation and specific certificates such as the CCNA and CISSP are much more important currently in the security industry than having a degree but I am not able to say whether this will still be true in the future.

A degree can help you get hired by a company who is looking for an inexperienced security technician who they can train the way they want. If they have two otherwise equal candidates and only one has a degree then the one with the degree will get the job.

As far as whether the jobs will be easy to come by in 2012, I'm pretty sure they will be.

Computers are getting more and more pervasive in our lives. Cars and mobile phones have computers in them these days powerful enough to host a virus. Nearly everybody has a computer at home and many have laptops.

Operating Systems are not getting any smarter and remain almost as easy to infect as they were 10 years ago. Virus writers ARE getting smarter and much more prolific. Ten years ago there were hundreds of viruses released each month, these days there are hundreds released each day.

With easy to learn languages like PHP, every man and his dog now has a website and very few of them know how to write secure code.

With all of these people getting in to technology there is an ever-increasing demand for skilled people who are able to secure that technology for them. I don't see this trends stopping any time soon.

Computer security programs?

Computer security programs?

Microsoft Security Essentials used to be Windows Live Onecare; OneCare was said to be the best anti-virus back then. Microsoft felt that everybody deserved to have a free anti-virus so their computers would not get destroyed. Microsoft improved and made it free, and now Onecare is Microsoft Security Essentials.

Microsoft Security Essentials has about 98% detection of all types of Malware and has about 53% detection of new Malware under three days old. 53% detection of new Malware is actually really good.

Keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a back up, and do not get AVG or Avast. If you decide not to get Microsoft Security Essentials, please get Panda or Avira. :)

Best security for computers these days??

Best security for computers these days??

Hi there. Actually, McAfee isn't a bad security program at all. So, it shouldn't be a problem if you want to keep on, as you already have used it for 60 days and you are getting use to it. Well, in an other view, McAfee is on the ranking 8 of the best 17 programs, so I don't think it's really necessary to change it. Here is the ranking of the best AntiVirus Software, if you want to change:

1. BitDefender AntiVirus

2. Kaspersky AntiVirus

3. ESET NOD32

4. AVG-AntiVirus

5. Vipre AntiVirus + AntiSpyware

6. F-Secure Anti-Virus (this is what I use)

7. Trend Micro

8. McAfee

9. Norton AntiVirus

10. CA AntiVirus

11. Norman AntiVirus and AntiSpyware
