On Christmas Eve I will start cooking some of the food for Christmas Day (if I can fix my stove), then I will probably spend the rest of my day with My Wonderful Hubby and watch Christmas Movies and drink Hot Chocolate. On Christmas Day I will fix the rest of my dinner, have all of my family over for Christmas, spend time with family, give the kids there presents, and enjoy the rest of the day. Traditional Christmas day...?
I'm Polish so on Christmas day/Christmas eve we are super traditional. Family meets together, we break oplatki and wish each other good fortunes, someone dresses up as Santa and passes out the presents (not Polish hahaha but it's tradition). Foods: HAM, always ham, sausage, potatoes, this beet soup (actually tastes really good),like a million cakes/sweets (Polish people like to eat..=]), sing Polish carols all together..yah I usually skip out on that one hahaha someone who married into my family doesn't speak Polish so it's awesome listening to him trying to say the words!! =D We recently started singing "12 days of Christmas" as a family and break up the different days to different groups of people-soo funny! And we go to church. That's usually on Christmas eve with one side of my family. On Christmas day I wake up and me and my brother sit by the tree waiting to open presents hahah (I'm 19 and still can't wait =]]]) Then we go over to my other grandma's house and have dinner/lunch again, completely full from the day before haha but we still eat a ton. Then we watch a Christmas movie and open presents =] NOW I WANT CHRISTMAS!!
What do deployed soldiers do on Christmas day?
Since Christmas, by it's very nature is a Christian Holiday, the enemy see's it as just another day.
They will in fact sometimes take advantage of the situation and assume that the U.S. forces are standing down a bit and have relaxed their guard.
If the operational demands warrants a patrol or mission to be carried out then they will be in the field on Christmas day.
Do not forget about the planes in the air, the ships at sea and submarines under the sea. Their missions do not change and Christmas is a full "work" day.
Our ships do not stop in the middle of the ocean or pull into port for the day. They are on station and ever vigilant. The planes still fly from the decks of our carriers to deliver air support to our troops on the ground, even on Christmas Day.
