I think many of the respondants do not understand what a marriage of convienience is.

Ideally, I am against the idea. I think that in this day and age in the industrialized world, we need to stand and fight, not give in to the heteronormative, partiarchal world that denies our right to have our real relationships recognized.

Your marriage may not be valid if the paperwork was not filed...

Contact your the court.. Ask if they have your marriage on file..

It is usually the responsibility of the official who married you to file the paperwork (usually by mail)

When you receive your marriage license the date on it is the date it was issued.. When the ceremony is preformed and the paperwork is filed the date you were married is entered in and you usually will receive a marriage certificate by mail in a few weeks..

Most marriage licenses are only valid for a few weeks... (I.e. you get a license on January 1 that license is valid through January 31... 4 weeks)...

If the proper follow up paperwork is not filed the court has no record of your marriage and it is therefore not valid..

While it may be embarrassing you will probably have to tell your husband so the two of you can be married again legally..

While it was a boneheaded move it's not the end of the world.. Laugh it off, go to the courthouse, have a quicky marriage and go on.. It will make a great story to tell when you are old and grey..
