FLOWER, Was it this one?

See Me

What do you see, nurses, what do you see?

Are you thinking, when you look at me –

A crabby old woman, not very wise,

Uncertain of habit, with far-away eyes,

Who dribbles her food and makes no reply,

When you say in a loud voice — “I do wish you’d try.”

Who seems not to notice the things that you do,

And forever is losing a stocking or shoe,

Who unresisting or not, lets you do as you will,

With bathing and feeding, the long day to fill.

Is that what you’re thinking, is that what you see?

Then open your eyes, nurse, you’re not looking at ME…

I’ll tell you who I am, as I sit here so still;

As I rise at your bidding, as I eat at your will.

I’m a small child of ten with a father and mother,

Brothers and sisters, who love one another,

A young girl of sixteen with wings on her feet.

Dreaming that soon now a lover she’ll meet;

A bride soon at twenty — my heart gives a leap,

Remembering the vows that I promised to keep;

At twenty-five now I have young of my own,

Who need me to build a secure, happy home;

A woman of thirty, my young now grow fast,

Bound to each other with ties that should last;

At forty, my young sons have grown and are gone,

But my man’s beside me to see I don’t mourn;

At fifty once more babies play ’round my knee,

Again we know children, my loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead,

I look at the future, I shudder with dread,

For my young are all rearing young of their own,

And I think of the years and the love that I’ve known;

I’m an old woman now and nature is cruel –

‘Tis her jest to make old age look like a fool.

The body is crumpled, grace and vigor depart,

There is now a stone where there once was a heart,

But inside this old carcass a young girl still dwells,

And now and again my battered heart swells.

I remember the joys, I remember the pain,

And I’m loving and living life over again,

I think of the years, all too few — gone too fast,

And accept the stark fact that nothing can last –

So open your eyes, nurses, open and see,

Not a crabby old woman, look closer, nurses — see ME!

This one is more me:-

FATHER WILLIAM

by: Lewis Carroll (1832-1898)

"You are old, Father William," the young man said,

"And your hair has become very white;

And yet you incessantly stand on your head--

Do you think, at your age, it is right?"

"In my youth," Father William replied to his son,

"I feared it might injure the brain;

But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,

Why, I do it again and again."

"You are old," said the youth, "as I mentioned before,

And have grown most uncommonly fat;

Yet you turned a back-somersault in at the door--

Pray, what is the reason of that?"

"In my youth," said the sage, as he shook his gray locks,

"I kept all my limbs very supple

By the use of this ointment -- one shilling the box --

Allow me to sell you a couple?"

"You are old," said the youth, "and your jaws are too weak

For anything tougher than suet;

Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak--

Pray, how did you manage to do it?"

"In my youth," said his father, "I took to the law,

And argued each case with my wife;

And the muscular strength which it gave to my jaw

Has lasted the rest of my life."

"You are old," said the youth, "one would hardly suppose

That your eye was as steady as ever;

Yet you balanced an eel on the end of your nose--

What made you so awfully clever?"

"I have answered three questions, and that is enough,"

Said his father; "don't give yourself airs!

Do you think I can listen all day to such stuff?

Be off, or I'll kick you down-stairs!"

How the senior citizens of India should celebrate the ensuing Republic day?

How the senior citizens of India should celebrate the ensuing Republic day?

As of now, nothing much left for the senior citizens to rejoice and celebrate the Indian Republic day, from the current day issues, scams, inflation, escalating living costs, deteriorating citizen values etc.

senior citizen’s do you attend a senior center regularly?

senior citizen's do you attend a senior center regularly?

senior citizens centers if they are busy active ones have great programs every day. There is something for everyone, not just the meals. especially for those who dont have a large family or family living far away, they are a blessing. From trips, exercise classes, art classes, Holiday celebrations, etc etc etc too numerous to mention our senior center has so much to keep one busy. It is closed on weekends (unless there is a special program that day) and we need the weekend to rest up frm being so busy at the Center during the week. There is blood pressure checking free of charge, nutrition advice and the blood pressure nurse will offer you advice on other health issues too, listens carefully and alerts you if she thinks it is important enough to see the doctor.. They have a van that will give you a ride back and forth if you dont drive, and shopping trips a couple times a week,, only a couple dollars round trip for the bus. Yes, as you can tell I do go fairly regularly, when there are things I enjoy. the food is good, I may go on days when theres something I like. Good question thanks for asking.
