Polar Bear Plunge Day 2018 is on Monday, January 1, 2018: how many polar bear clubs are in Russia?
Monday, January 1, 2018 is Polar Bear Plunge Day 2018.
actually, tomorrow is the day of holy water in the Orthodox Church. many people submerge in the rivers, lakes, etc.; as on this day ALL water is considered holy water. ice is cut open (2-3 feet deep) and a frame is dropped in so one can walk into the water to submerge, swim, jump about, etc. the priests are present, too. we are slated for -2 to -4 fahrenheit tomorrow.
as for polar bears, i don't know if people do that for "fun". but the Russian banya is similar. you heat up in a sauna type room, then jump naked into the snow and rub it about the body. it is considered healthy for the skin and body to cleanse oneself in such a way.
Polar Bear Club, Michigan City Indiana??
Try this site, like you I searched and searched to no avail. This is my wifes hometown, we returned in '03 for her high school reunion. I wasn't impressed since I grew up in Orlando.
She does remember fools going down to the lake and jumping in on New Years Day, so maybe it does exist, just under a name that doesn't have Michigan City in it. The newspaper should know.
Good luck and don't freeze.
I want to shave my head for Saint Baldrick's, but people keep putting me down...?
Your hair will grow back and you will have the great feeling of doing something for others.
People think I'm crazy for doing the Polar Bear plunge, but we raise a lot for charity
