i have play sand in several tanks and i love it ... i like it more than the 50 dollar fancy aquarium sand i have as well ... i have seven tanks, all have some type of sand (3 with play sand) and all are live planted ... i put malaysian trumpet snails in the tanks to keep the sand aerated which works perfectly well and i never have to touch the substrate ... which sure beats vacuuming gravel in seven tanks !!! the filters do not suck it up and once the sand has settled in the tanks, even with water changes it does not stir up ... i bought a bag of play sand at home depot and a home depot bucket and rinsed the sand at least 20 times in my bathtub ... and when i put it in the tank by the next day there was no cloudiness ... and no, do not get coloured sand, you want natural sand that will not harm the fish and that is play sand not coloured sand ...

Where can I find childrens play sand?

Weird how your stores do not have play sand. Stores like Home Depot should have it in stock because they order it regularly. In fact they should not run out, but my experience with my home depot is that they receive regular restock of things like play sand every 5 days or so.

Is it off if my three year old will play moon sand or playdoh all day long?

I'm no doctor, but my son is two and when he figures out how to do something for the first time he will sit and repeat it forever. The day he figured out a puzzle he put it together about 100 times in a row. I was talking to my mother-in-law about it, and she said that it's how kids react to accomplishing something. I hate that everyone jumps to autism no matter what the circumstance!
