Pig In A Blanket Day

Pig Inside A Blanket Day encourages the intake of ‘pigs in blankets’ – small pork sausages (or chipolatas) covered with sausage or pastry, and cooked until crispy. Chinese and eastern types more carefully resemble small sausage comes. To have an alternative method of honoring Pig In A Blanket Day, you may consider wrapping your farm creatures in layers of protective fabric – whichever you want.

Guinea Pig help needed.?

guinea pigs are very shy animals and they take some time getting used to human interaction epsically if they were not handled from a young age and usually when baught from the petshop they are never handled their ethier, so they can be extremley shy. my suggestion is too bond with her as much as possible, when i first got my guinea pig i would wrap him up in a blanket and lay him on my chest and feed him treats. this worked and helped alot, if shes talking to you while you are holding her she might be trying to tell you she needs to go the toilet, they can hold their bladder for about 15minutes, so every 15mins just pop her back into her cage and then pick her up agian, when shes in her cage you can feed her treats, etc. when i first got my guinea pig he also didnt want to eat in front of me, so i put a blanket over the top of his cage so it was dark and cozy and i could hear him munching away, this helped him be relaxed, then more and more i would take off the blanket and he would eat infront of me. she will warm up to you and people soon enough, once she realises she can trust humans then she will be ok. i wouldn't really take away her hiding spot as that will probably stress her out a bit, agian the more time she bonds with you the less she will feel the need to hide from youse. have you considered getting her a friend of the same sex? guinea pigs are social animals and do best in pairs, it doesnt make a difference in cost, money or anything or that nature, all you need to do is make sure the cage is big enough for the both of them. if you don't get her a friend make sure she is always preoccupied with people, as she would get quiet lonley on her own and it wouldn't be very nice. as for foods, bellpeppers are the highest in vitamin c and is good to be given everday, but you want to avoid giving them veggies with high calcium as this can cause bladder stones, so things like parsley, carrots and dandelion leaves should be given in small amounts and only as a treat, they can have grass about 3-4times weekly, but only a handful so her stomach can adjust too it. grass can go off pretty quick, so if their is any uneaten grass in the cage after about 20minutes then just chuck it out, fruit should be given as a treat as its too high in sugar, you want to give your guinea pig foods with high vitamin c levels, but low calicum levels to avoid bladder stones. she should have unlimted hay and a bowl of pellets, veggies should be given morning and night

Just got a Guinea pig 11 days ago?

- guinea pig's teeth grow 3 mm per month, therefore it is ideal they have toys, pelets and hay 24-7.

- unlimited pelets and mixed feed must be provided for the first year of your guinea pig's life, and after this it must be a limited amount.

- guinea pigs are social animals, so the more the merrier.

- lettuce can kill a guinea pig, therefore only feed them romaine lettuce if you wish to feed them lettuce.

- fruit and veggies are only okay as an occasional treat, and can not make up most, or all of, a guinea pigs diet.

- you must have one hiding place for every guinea pig in the cage, plus one more (eg: if you have 2 guinea pigs, 3 hiding places will be required.)

- a male guinea pig is called a boar, female is called a sow, but a baby i called a pup.

- the gestation period of a guinea pig is aprox 64-72 days.

- male guinea pigs CAN get along, although only if one is submissive and the other is dominant.

- female guinea pigs will hump eachother, and mae guinea pigs will hump eachother as a sign of dominance.

- if a female guinea pig humps another guinea pig, it is usually because she is on heat, although it is rare the non dominant guinea pig to hump the dominant one.

- guinea pigs are more responsive to names with a distinct 'ee' sound, and will learn their name quicker if it contains this sound (eg: squeaky, izzy) (one of my guinea pig's real name is Simba, but he knows and responds to Simbie)

- guinea pigs and rabbits are actually not related; rabbits are lagomaorphs, not rodents.

- another name for guinea pig is cavie.

- the scientiffic name for a guinea pig is cavia porcellus.

- male guinea pigs reach sexual maturity at about 4 weeks, and females at aprox 3-5.

- tomatoes are good for guinea pigs, as they contain plenty of vitamins.

- a guinea pig's cage should be cleaned properly about 3 times a week, and cleaned with cleaning sprays to remove stains etc about once per week.

- guinea pigs are naturally prey animals, there fore it is their natural instincts to run and hide, so do not take it personally if your guinea pigs run away when you approach their cage and try to catch them.

- it is important to hold your guinea pig every day, as well as let them have floor time inside, and a run around in a closed off area outside daily, if you wish to bond with it (and even if you dont.)

- it is essential to have your guinea pigs claws clipped about once a month,to ensure they dont grow so long that they curl around and pierce the piggies paw (my friend let her g. pig's claws grow that long, and one day i went over there and MADE her cut them. it was horrifieing, those poor g.pigs)

- do not support pet shops, as many of them neglect their animals, will accept sick and defected guinea pigs, and will accpet them from breeders who breed their animals in horrific conditions. Instead, adopt a guinea pig from a shelter, and give the poor thing a new chance of life (they have all been vet checked etc, so the animal will be healthy.)

- honey and peanut butter are alright to feed to your guinea pigs, but only occasionally and in small proportions (maybe 1 lvl teaspoon per 3-4 weeks or sumthig similar.)

- to keep your guinea pigs warmer in winter, do the following (if it is an outside guinea pig) :

> Provide plenty of timothy hay, and shredded paper (try shredded news paper for extra softness although ensure it has as little ink as possible.

> Place a covered hot water bottle in cage.

> Fill up several plastic water bottles with warm water, and place in cage.

> Add extra hiding places in cage.

> Cover cage in towels/blankets, but remove if gets wet.

> Ensure the cage is enclosed, or relocate onto a veranda.

> If possible, move your guinea pig inside, or into a garage. Do not put it in a car garage, as car fumes can prove fatal in minutes.

- to keep your guinea pig cool in summer, do the following (for outside guinea pigs) :

> Place a brick in the cage, and pour cool water onto it.

> fill up a water bottle with cold water.

> dampen a towel, and put in on a wire bit of a cage, so when the wind blows onto it, it will make the air cooler in the cage.

> change the water several times a day, and ensure it is not in a sunny spot.

> enusre they ALWAYS have shade and water.

> give them some cool watery treats, such as water melon or straw berries.

- guinea pigs are best kept inside, because their coats are short and they feel the temperature like humans. you can tell if it too hot or cold for them by how you feel. if it it too hot for you, it is too hot for them, and if it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them.

- Guinea pigs suffer easily from heat stress, which is another reason why it is important to allow them to live inside.

- it is important to towel dry your guinea pig, and sometimes blow dry it on low heat, with your hand in between the dryer and guinea pig. never place your guinea pig outisde in the weather if it is still wet or damp.

what is guinea pigs diet? and how do i get the smell out off my room?and do they bite?tell me al i need to now

Guinea pig don't bite unless they feel they are being threatened. They need unlimited pellets if under 6 months old. If they are over 6 months old, you should feed them 1/4 cup a day. The pellets should be Alfalfa based if the pigs are under six months. It should be Timothy based if they are older. They usually don't smell. You should take all of the poops out of the cage once a day. DO NOT use cedar shavings in the cage. They cause lung problems, and your guinea pig could die. I suggest blankets or fleece. They need one cup of veggies a day.

Some veggies they can not have, and potatoes and tomatoes are just two. You should Google search what to feed them. Fruits can be fed as a treat about once or twice a week. They need vitamin C, but don't use drops that you put in the water. The best thing to give them for some C is an orange slice every other day. For the pellets, I recommend Oxbow.

They always need unlimited Timothy hay. Alfalfa can be fed at about a handful a day for pigs under six months. After they are older than six months, they should only have it as a treat once per week. For hay I recommend Kleenmama's Hayloft, or Oxbow.

Oxbow can be found at some stores around you, and there is a store locator on their website. Kleenmama's must be bought off the internet and it will be shipped to you.

Guinea pigs need floor time once a day. I give my boys floor time for about four hours a day. Make sure there are no spaces that they can get into and can't get out, and they can't chew on any wires.

They love to be cuddled. You need to have lap time with them once a day.

They are often happier with two or more. They will be very lonely all alone. Some people will say that males will fight more than females. This is not true. It really depends on the personality. Make sure that if you get two they are same sex pairs. You don't want to breed. Breeding is very bad. If you Google search it, you will find how top sex them. It is fairly easy.

They will need a large cage. NO PET STORE CAGES! Petstore cages are always too small. I suggest custom made cages, or C&C cages. I will put a link for C&C's below. You can buy C&C cages already made, or you can buy a kit and put one together your self.

DON'T buy from a petstore. Every time you buy from a guinea pig from a petstore, another two guinea pigs replace it. We don't want overpopulation, now do we? Opt to adopt. Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die.

Good luck with your new little friend!
