Yes! Most church's do planning, administrative, and pastoral care work during the week. Call a large church, and I am sure you will be able to talk to somebody! You don't have to call, though. Just walk into the office and tell them what you told us.

Should Care homes discourage Christian workers who oppose gay rights?

There needs to be a balance between the rights of gay people to be free and open and the rights of religiously owned institutions (who must be licensed by the government in order to operate).

I think I experienced such a balance when my lover was dying of cancer. He was hospitalized in a Catholic hospital, and we all know the official Catholic position on gays. Nevertheless, we were treated with full dignitity and I was given full access to him, any time day or night, 7 days a week.

When he died, I was there with him and when the pastoral care nun came to me, she hadn't been briefed on our relationship so she didn't know who he was to me. She asked me if he was my brother.

I said, "No, Sister, he is my lover."

She responded, "OH! A very special friend."

So the Catholic church kept its beliefs and yet treated us with full dignity, respect, and dignity.

I think that was a good balance.
