There's no special celebration like parades, programs, etc. during the National Day just some television documentaries about the Kingdom and a simple ceremony by the king in the capital city of Riyadh. It is not like in other countries that the whole nation have holiday and celebrations, there's work as usual.

The only kingdom wide occasions being observed with festivities and thanksgiving prayers with no work (with pays), classes and store closes are the EDI al-Ftr and Eid al-adhan. which lasts for about one-week. It is also these occasions when people share gifts/ foods especially to the poor citizens

When the King and Princes visits the different parts of the kingdom, streets and buildings are being decorated and well lighted with their big pictures hanging everywhere. There's a pass-in review and parade of military troops and tanks with plane exhibition in the air. There are also all-male folk dances performed before the guest by the male dancers in native costumes and abundance of foods are being served.

That's what I observed during the 14 years of stay in Saudi Arabia.

Is it true that it's traditional to give each other paper fish on Bastille Day?

The paper fish is a joke for April Fools Day .. The custom is not to exchange gifts for the National Day .. People have a free day, it's summertime and French people use to enjoy themselves . There are balls in the evening, and a lot of babies used to come from then . It's a memory of what the People has gained when he fought for himself .

( Nobody calls it Bastille Day in France . Nobody knows this term . We just call it "le 14 juillet", and it's the Fête Nationale = National Day.).
