The National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) is the national body to promote volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore

Fraternity and Sorority Rush week? Formal vs Informal? Does it depend on the school?

From my experience the organizations that are members of the National Panhellenic Council, and recognized non-national organizations of the local Panhellenic chapter, at the college or university participate in a formal recruitment/rush. These are pre organized events in which you visit the organizations on the first night and then receive and accept invitations the next night, and so on and so on until the final parties and bid day. The parties are usually themed, so that you will experience basically the same material at each organization (such as philanthropy night will focus on what each sorority does for their national philanthropy). This technique applies to most all Panhellenic recruitment/rush events, and the sorority and fraternity usually have to abide by strict recruitment/rush rules by their local school and their national organization.

The male fraternity events tend to conduct in the more informal recruitment/rush enviornment, which is much less structured.

The events will depend on the school, but most all schools will have link to the Panhellenic organizations and show at least the past years recruitment schedule or have someone you can contact to get a better idea of exactly how it will work at that school.

You will also have Rho Chi, or recruitment counselors, to ask any and all questions when you actually go through the process. These are members of the participating sororities and fraternities that have de-affiliated with their organization to be an unbiased guide for you until recruitment/rush is over.

What are some good out of school events?

Activities that often involve some time commitment outside of the regular school day, such as band and choir, are also considered extracurricular activities.
