Any Pharmacy tech that can help me with this question?

The pharmacy field is a very exciting field to be in. I am a certified pharmacy technician and work in an independent, retail pharmacy. Every day is different and it can be a rewarding job. Pharmacy Techs work with Pharmacists in making sure the right prescribed medication gets to the intended patient.

I have worked to develop a website geared towards pharmacy technicians. I have developed it over the past two years or so and I think you should check it out. There is unique content there on a host of different topics, including tips for putting together a resume, job interviewing tips, tips on asking for a raise, tips on asking for a promotion, pages on all of the different practice settings pharmacy techs can work at (hospital, retail, mail order, pharmacy tech educators, non-sterile compounding, long-term care, outpatient mental health centers, IV compounding, the military, etc.

There is a job board where people can search for a job, also, I have a page where anyone can ask questions about anything pharmacy-related. There are also pages on National Certification, including pages on the PTCB (the Pharmacy Tech Certification Board) and the ICPT (Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians), how to study for the certification, a review of current study materials, suggested study materials, and a study strategy.

Other pages include Medical and Pharmacy Abbreviations, Calculating Days Supply, Eye Drops Days Supply, Pharmacy Automation, Dosage Forms, Pharmacy Math-including conversions, decimals, metric system, apothecaries system, and American Standard systems of measurement.

I'd really like you to check it out. And ask me a question there or make a comment. I'd love to hear from you.

I hope you find the website useful!

What does it take to be a pharmacy technician?

What does it take to be a pharmacy technician?

Most pharmacy technicians have only on-the-job training, but many employers favor those who have completed a formal training and certification process. The largest national certification exams in the United States are given by the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) and Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). The exam given by ICPT is called the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT). Completing one of these exams earns the technician the credentials "CPhT", corresponding to the professional title of Certified Pharmacy Technician. As of 2002, in the United States, there were no U.S. federal (and few state) laws making it mandatory for all technicians employed to meet this qualifying standard. However, some non-federal jurisdictions do require licensing such as the state of Virginia. Many are required to register or become licensed in most states, and pass a state examination administered by the state board of pharmacy; regardless of whether they pass the national exam by ICPT or PTCB. Massachusetts requires passing the state pharmacy board exam regardless of ICPT or PTCB.

Minimum age for Pharmacy Technician 1 in North Carolina?

Minimum age for Pharmacy Technician 1 in North Carolina?

The very fact that you're asking pharmacy law questions here on Yahoo answers even though you are a member of Penn Foster is very revealing for Penn Foster. It demonstrates that they cannot answer basic pharmacy law questions! Man, I feel for you. I was a student in a trade school and the instructor that teaches most of my classes was not a pharmacist. She also couldn't answer basic questions, much like your instructor(s) at Penn Foster. Good thing my Dad is a lawyer. He wrote a letter to the trade school and got my money back. Most state's laws REQUIRE them to give your money back if you are not satisfied with their program. You should at least get a partial refund back.

I am currently taking online classes at and the instructor Tom King is a pharmacist. He has a real knack for making difficult stuff easy to understand. Anyways, I asked him the same question and he told me that the law doesn't say anything about a minimum age to be a pharmacy technician in Georgia. However, it will be very difficult to get a job if you are under 18 years of age because the law allows them to hire more pharmacy technicians to assist a pharmacist if they all have passed the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. The PTCB exam requires that you be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. However, there is a technicality in the law you can take advantage of if you're under 18 years of age. You only have to register as a pharmacy technician after your employer has finished training you. It can take up to 30 days for them to train you and you only have to register up to 30 days after you complete the training program. Therefore, you may be up to 60 days before your 18th birthday when you get your first job as a pharmacy technician in a pharmacy that uses more than 2 pharmacy technicians per pharmacist. Explain this law to your future employer at your interview and he/she will be so impressed that they'll probably hire you on the spot. Pharmacy is full of "red tape" (rules, laws, and regulations) with severe penalties if these laws are broken. Any pharmacy manager is keen on hiring pharmacy techs who work well with others and has a good knowledge of pharmacy law.
