Ireland Itinerary-Only Have 3 Days-Ideas Opinions Etc?

Sweet Pea, You are going to spend your entire trip behind the wheel do you realize that?

If you could change your reservations or simply exit the plane at Shannon and start off there your trip would be quite "do able" . But starting form Dublin, tired and jet lagged...it reads like a three day migraine in the making. Have you thought of simply starting in Dublin spending day/night one there then taking the next two days getting to Cork? Think about it, that is more of a holiday weekend and less of a hurry up and wait tour.

OK...

Have you thought about catching a train in Dublin to Galway, and pick up a car and meal there? It would save you hours, wear and tear plus you might actually arrive with an hour or two snooze under your belt. Trains are frequent and easy to catch at Houston Station right in Dublin a bus link or cab from the airport.

stopping in Yellowstone National Park for a day and a half?

stopping in Yellowstone National Park for a day and a half?

Make sure to stop at Old Faithful...who could visit the park and not stop to see it?? You can check in some of the gift shops and visitor centers in Old Faithful Village to find out when it will spot off next. I've been there the last couple of years and it has gone off roughly every 90 minutes.

Hot Mammoth Springs is impressive too. Words can't describe the formations from the hot springs there. If you are interested in geysers, try Norris, Upper, and Lower Geyser Basins. There is plenty to see and nice boardwalks and trails.

Visit the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone to see the park's namesake...beautiful scenery as well as everywhere else in the park. Your camera will get a workout.

If you drive towad Yellowstone Lake, you can see some awesome views of the mountains.

Morning Glory Pool and Grotto Geyser and two neat things to see. The Artist Paintpots are interesting too.

If you are interested in wildlife, bison and elk are easy to spot in most parts of the park, especially near the West Entrance. For wolves and bears, check out Lamar and Hayden Valleys. I've been told that bears can be seen near Tower Junction, although this part of the park is closed every fall when I am there. Bighorn sheep can be spotted near Gardiner/Hot Mammoth Springs and near Mt. Washburn. Coyotes roam all over the park and it is not uncommon to see them along the roads and in fields. I've had luck spotting pronghorn near Gardiner and in Lamar Valley. Moose are hard to comy by in the park, but keep you eyes open. I've had better luck in the Grand Tetons seeing moose at Moose Junction. Depending on how you get to the park, you can drive thru the Tetons and come thru the South Entrance.Your entrance fee works for either park for 7 days. Don't forget to bring binoculars if you have them, you'll be glad you did.

There are all sorts of water falls and nice little hikes. There are turn outs everywhere so if you see something you want to look at or want to get out of the car and stretch, you'll have plenty of options.

Bring good hiking boots/walking shoes and be prepared for all sorts of weather. Layered clothing is best. Fill your cooler and your gas tank at one of the bigger towns before you get close to the park as the small towns near the park are a bit expensive. Have plenty or drinks and snacks. You'll be enjoying the park so much that you won't want to stop to eat. While you are in the park, pay attention to warnings posted in the parking lots and at ranger stations. You can find out about nearby animal activity and any other safety warnings. The rangers are helpful too. If you have questions about where something is or where to spot an animal, ask.

Yellowstone is such an awesome experience. You won't be disappointed.

does anybody live in or near yellowstone national park ?

does anybody live in or near yellowstone national park ?

I do not live near Yellowstone, but have been there enough to give you a few tips.

Depending on when you are going to the park, will depend on the weather. Be prepared for anything hot or cold, sunshine, fog or snow. If you are going this summer, you will be able to wear shorts and T-shirts during the day, but also have jeans and sweatshirts or a jacket. There are times when you are driving thru the park and the elevation changes enough from place to place the there is a significat drop in temps. By late Sept. and early Oct. there will be a chance of snow. I was there the end of Oct. last year and it snowed 2 days in a row, so if you are going more toward fall, at least have good hiking boots, gloves, a heavy jacket and hood or hat. Last year, I wore 2 layers of clothes most days with my ski jacket when we were out walking around looking at geysers and taking pics. Whenever you go, be sure to have good walking shoes.

There are not tons of restaruants in or around Yellowstone, but there are enough for all the folks that visit there. There are a few different places to eat in the park (at Old Faithful Village and Hot Mammoth Springs) but mostly you will find better places in the towns near all the park entrances. Jackson, WY may have the most variety. I typically stay in West Yellowstone, MT and there is somewhat of a variety there. The locals can always point you to the best places to eat, but I can't recall a Mexican place anywhere. My favorite places in West Yellowstone for dinner were Bullwinkle's and Rusty's Roost (both were mostly home-style cooking). If you go before Oct. most restaraunts are open, but beginning in Oct. things start closing up for winter and by the beginning of Nov. hardly anything is open - that is true both inside and outside the park as far as dining goes. We generally take a cooler and stop at one of the big cities (Idaho Falls or Pocatello) on our way to the park and load up on food and drinks. The grocery stores in the towns are a bit expensive.

You will love the park. So much to see and do. Geysers, animals everywhere, plenty of places to hike, beautiful waterfalls. Plan on taking tons of pictures.
