I got basically the same thing, except for a few things.

I paid $900 in the end.

Got an HP dv6000, intel core 2 duo 1.8 ghz. 2 gb ram. Nvidia Go7400. 15.4" 1280x800 screen. Windows Vista Home Premium.

Oh, and the high capacity 6 cell battery.

I got a discount through my best friend's dad. But I found a very similar system over with Dell (in small business, since you can customize it) for about the same price ($936 I think) I think at least 50-100 of that was just for the "better" windows though.

If you plan to run Vista (even basic!), I very highly recommend more ram (at least 1 gb)

Other than that, my only comment about my system is that... the video card (even though I maxed it out for a lower-end system) is *not* going to be as good as a non-mobile gfx card... I was slightly disappointed in that.

Umm, and hp... The NIC in this thing goes blind every now and then (I think it's not playing nicely with Vista) and hp support (just the basic stuff) is horrible. They won't do anything to help and each time I've called they have very strong indian-ish accents (meh!)

Oh, the dell was the Latitude... shoot, where'd it go?! Hmm, they don't sell it anymore I guess (I bought mine just over a month ago)... Hmm, if I were you (and were looking at Dell) I would customize the Latitude D520 ("best" configuration)

A more direct comparison (to the one you're looking at) would be the Latitude D531.

Then again, everyone kept telling me to get a mac. Or to get an IBM (if I were to get a pc). Heck, maybe I should have.

Aren't you that guy who just asked if he should pay 40k for this thing?It is still not worth 40k!1k should be the limit.You should get at least 1 gb of ram though.
