NO! They are not a mexican band... They are from New York (except the lead singer). They have a lot of international influence in their music; African, Mexican, etc. You've probably heard "Horchata" and "Cousins" [which they recorded in Mexico]; but listen to "M79" and "Bryn" and you may hear something more than the Mexican influence. =)
How to manage university life and take studies seriously for first time international Freshman student.?
My daughter has a 3.69 GPA and her boyfriend has a 3.8. He also works and is a TA. My daughter is in dance and has a lot of hours per week in rehearsals.
Some weekends they do homework all weekend long, other times they don't have much school work to do on the weekend. You need to adjust your free time with what school work needs to get done. Most weekends you are going to find yourself needing to put in way more than 2 hours of study time.
You need to stay organized. Have a calendar in your room with all due dates and test dates written down.
Teachers will hand out a syllabus first day of class. READ it, KEEP it. Teachers will not remind you of assignments that are due.
You can record lectures.
ALL US colleges have tutoring centers free to all enrolled students. GO there the first week of classes. Get use to going there.
Study with other students from the same class.
Rule of thumb- they say plan on 2/3 hours of study per credit hour. So a full time student must take at least 12 credits per semester. You can take up to 18 credits per semester. Most student take at least 15. - IF you are taking 15 credits- that means you will be in class for about 15 hours each week. Plan on at least 30 hours of study time per week.
Get in exercise. My kids work out every Saturday morning. and during the week if they can make the time. This is on top of walking everywhere. Most colleges have great recreation centers.
Most college campus' have plenty of things to do, with out going to parties or drinking. Going to sport games is a popular thing to do. Make sure to go all meetings at your dorm the first week.
