How much water should you drink per day?

Popular culture is loaded with myths and half-truths. Most are

harmless. But when doctors start believing medical myths, perhaps it's

time to worry. In the British Medical Journal this week, researchers

looked into several common misconceptions, one of them being the

belief that a person should drink eight glasses of water per day. "We

got fired up about this because we knew that physicians accepted these

beliefs and were passing this information along to their patients,"

said Dr. Aaron Carroll, assistant professor of pediatrics at the

Indiana University School of Medicine. "And these beliefs are

frequently cited in the popular media." Myth: You should drink at

least eight glasses of water a day. Fact: "There is no medical

evidence to suggest that you need that much water," said Dr. Rachel

Vreeman, a pediatrics research fellow at the university and co-author

of the journal article. Vreeman thinks this myth can be traced back to

a 1945 recommendation from the Nutrition Council that a person consume

the equivalent of 8 glasses (64 ounces) of fluid a day. Over the

years, "fluid" turned to water. But fruits and vegetables, plus coffee

and other liquids, count.

Hello there - you should aim to consume around 1,800 - 2,000 calories a day. I'm assuming you're female. (for males, it's 2,300 - 2,500 calories)

But it's not simply the number of calories you eat that's important, it's where those calories come from. That's why it's vital that you ignore all the crazy commercial diets that base your eating around points, or a restricted group of foods.

Make sure you avoid saturated fats and trans fats (hydrogenated fats) but don't avoid fats altogether. Some fats are good for you in moderation, like oily fish (salmon or mackerel) and almonds/brazil nuts, and avocados.

And make sure you get plenty of complex carbs (brown rice, sweet potatoes), fruit and veg, and protein to build and repair muscle tissue.

You say you're exercising every day, just make sure you're doing a variety of exercise, and leave one day a week (ideally two days, such as wednesdays, and sundays, rather than 2 days in a row) as a rest day for your body to recover. On days you don't exercise, eat a little less, but never skip meals.

Good luck!

How many calories a day should i consume?

You should be eating a minimum of 1200 calories a day. But for you height, age and weight loss goals, eating 1400 calories a day would be perfect. But that is not including the calories you burn off. You can add those too.

Further explination;

1400 calories a day + 500 on the days you workout = 1900

Or 1900 calories 5 days a week and 1400 calories 2 days a week so average it out and you have roughly 1700 calories a day.

Hope this helps :)
