gingerbread house?

I think the simplest thing is to buy one of the pre-baked kits out there (I've seen them at Michael's Crafts and other places). All the house pieces are already pre-cut and ready to be assembled.

You'll need Royal Icing which functions as glue (I think its basically powdered sugar and water). Cover a base (something stiffer than cardboard 'cause your house is going to be heavy) with aluminum foil.

Glue the walls of your house together. You can use a lot of icing on the inside to make sure the pieces stick. And you may want to prop up the walls with canned goods until the icing solidifies, then take the cans away. The roof would be glued on in the same manner, using cans to keep the sections from sliding off the peak until the icing dries. Since this is a hurry-up-and-wait process, I would assemble the house a day before you plan to start decorating it.

After that, you're only limited by your imagination and your available candies. Start thinking of ways to convey an idea on your house but using edible items. For example, shingles could be made from Vanilla Wafers. I'm sure you can find a lot of Gingerbread inspiration out there on the net.

Gingerbread?

Gingerbread?

Oh dear ...

Here gingerbread is like a cake very moist and tasty.

Where as a cookie is a 'ginger nut biscuit' ... so hard to bite almost teeth breaking.

So ... I'll go for the the Gingerbread House! (These days ... ha.)

How Long does a (store bought) gingerbread house last? :? :)?

How Long does a (store bought) gingerbread house last? :? :)?

These gingerbread houses, the icing and the decorative candy get stale quickly if left uncovered for a few days. Although they are fun to build and to eat, they are primarily decorative. But, that never stopped my children form picking at the candy and the ginger bread house.

Kids dream about a house made of candy and their taste buds don't care if the icing is hard as a rock and the gingerbread needs to be broken with a hammer!!! They still love this stuff.

If you are using the gingerbread house strictly for decorative purposes, then it does not matter if it is left uncovered because it will look good for weeks on end.

Happy Holidays!!!
