Does anyone know what day Festivus lands on?

I would say your best bet would be to get in touch with Frank Costanza, lol Good luck! Festivus, for the rest of us!

Will you be celebrating Festivus this day?

I will give thanks for my new flask filled with Johhny Walker.

My fellow atheists: Is there a Festivus for the rest of us?

My fellow atheists: Is there a Festivus for the rest of us?

Though Festivus celebrations have been shown to date back to Roman times, most people believe that Festivus was born on Dec. 18, 1997 -- the day the Festivus episode of "Seinfeld" was first broadcast. That TV version of Festivus is what you describe above and is now becoming more popular every year. The anti-cheer nature of Festivus delivers an antidote to the tinselly, "tee-hee tyranny" of forced joviality of the winter holidays.

Festivus is not solely an atheist holiday but one that can be celebrated by anyone who is tired of the commercialization of Christmas. Frank Costanza, the father of Festivus, is known for having created Festivus on the show because in his battle over a doll for his son George, he realized there "had to be a better way".

12 years after Frank uttered these words, Festivus has taken hold with more and more people enjoying this alternate celebration.

We celebrate here in Milwaukee. While wrestling the head of household is the Costanza expectations for the Feats of Strength, many alternates are now used -- thumb wrestling, holding your breat in a tub of water, and syrup drinking are just a few.

We went so far as to introduce Festivus Poles five years ago at FestivusPoles.com to meet the Festivus Pole needs of the world. Yes, I guess you could say we have commercialized Festivus but we are having so much fun with it, that we can't stop now.

But there's no need to buy a Festivus Pole from us. Go to Home Depot and buy some PVC pipe and wrap it aluminum if you like. Festivus is the opportunity to have an ecumenical celebration in late December. It truly is a Festivus For The Rest of Us.
