Emotional Intelligence Awareness Month on October, 2020: Please please help - lost?
October, 2020 is Emotional Intelligence Awareness Month 2020. Emotional Intelligence Institute Emotional Intelligence
Well, I can relate to having difficulty in finding a good professional to talk to. And Ive also found it near impossible to find people who truly understand me. But those things arent as necessary to me as they once were. I went through a long dark period in my life when I was so confused about myself and about the people around me. I wanted answers but it just seemed like people didnt really understand. It seemed like they had never been as messed up as I was. The solution that really worked for me was turning to books. I began searching out information on the things I was confused about and slowly I began to make sense of things. In the last couple of months Ive really developed my ability to empathize, in other words, make sense of where people are coming from, based on their reactions towards me. My walls are slowly coming down. Self awareness was the key. Putting language to my experience. And 99% of that came from relating to bits and pieces of what various authors said in books. If you are interested in trying this approach here are some books to get you started:
Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
Destructive Emotions by Daniel Goleman
Changing Course by Claudia Black
A Guide to Rational Living by Albert Ellis
The Five Things We Cannot Change by David Richo
Whos Life Is It Anyway by Nina Brown
Boundaries by Anne Katherine
And there are plenty of others. I used the search engine on amazon.com to find the majority of the books as you can read some of the pages right on the website. Good luck and dont rule out professional help. I know there are some good ones out there. Theyre just hard to find sometimes.
How do you make yourself feel again when you feel so numb inside...just wanna deal with it & move on but cant!?
Emotional numbness is a way to avoid emotional pain and discomfort. Repressing them is a common defense mechanism used by many people. There could be a traumatizing event in your life that have caused this numbness.
I understand you, I am similar to that but not as severe as yours. If we don't express what we feel and bottle up those emotions, it will one day explode like a bomb and that is terrible. Emotions and memory are connected in a certain way. Maybe we bottle up our emotions because there are things in this world that is too painful to remember. It is all emotional intelligence. I will give you a website that may help you understand what you are going through.
The feeling of numbness is a feeling of neutrality and depression. If you take away your ability to feel sad, you will take away your ability to feel happy. It is not selective, but collective. Feeling numb feels empty and imprisoned. To be able to feel is liberating.
We are afraid to face the pain because we choose to avoid it and go for pleasure and comfort even more. Awareness is the way of getting to feel again. If you feel a certain feeling, don't push it down to your unconscious, but let yourself experience that feeling by focusing your energy. Experience it because that's how you feel and you own that. Then express it if you want others to know and to care what you are feeling. When express, never start like this: "You made me angry", because you are making the other person responsible for what you are feeling, so in a more constructive manner, it is better to say "I feel..." and they will really care what you feel.
I express myself through writing, many of them are poetic but the majority is in prose. If I were you, I would keep a diary to record your experiences, your feelings and your thoughts. It is very helpful. It is the safest place to express yourself. It is very therapeutic. You get to know and understand yourself much better than without doing it. To express yourself in person requires you to be courageous and that will take time because you don't know how they will react to your expression.
This is the website: I hope this helps and I hope I have helped you in re-gaining your access to feel your feelings and emotions. :) I hope you will feel better soon. :)
If u are senior high school and have only 10 year left to live what u suggest i should be doing?
The healing power of the body is very strong, with the right psychological tools.
I know two people who were not supposed to survive their brain traumas to the next day, and they both made full recoveries.
I was told that my second staph infection would probably kill me, and that the treatment, if successful, would take eight weeks. In five days i was sent back to work and was free of the infection, and symptoms. I shattered my left radius, and was told that my wrist would be frozen. i have almost a full range of motion.
So, what you could be doing, if you are willing to learn something new that costs no money, and can help you tremendously, is to first read my blog, the use the link to SGI to find a support group near you.
Here is a site with an introduction to the concepts of living better and creating peace, happiness, and success by using your own abilities.
