Down Syndrome Awareness Month on October, 2021: Down Syndrome Parents?
October, 2021 is Down Syndrome Awareness Month 2021. Love life and be gentle: September 2012 be born with Down syndrome
I do have a child with Down syndrome (mosaic DS). He is 22 months old. My greatest moment with him? Wow, there have been a lot! When he laughs, when he tries really hard at something and accomplishes it-he will clap his hands and yell, "YEEEAAHH," But most recently is when he took his first steps. Something as simple as him sitting up by himself made me cry in tears of joy. My most trying time with him was when he had his heart surgeries, he has had two to date, and that has really been the hardest things Ive went through. But after the surgeries, and during, you really realize what's important in life. You realize how many people are there for you and love you and your son. ANd you realize how much your kid is really your whole life and I couldnt live without him.
If you could, I would like for your project not only to mention the health issues and biological aspects of having DS but I would also wish you to focus a little on their ABILITIES. Also I want to point out that 90% of mothers who find out their child may have DS abort. THey recently spent 15 million dollars to detect DS earlier in pregnancies, obviously so that they could be aborted sooner and make that 90% number even higher. I tell you what, that pisses me off so bad because that money could be better spent on services and special education for our children. People with DS can really accomplish so much and are most likely very different from how they are percieved from others. With the help of early intervention and other services, our children can really reach their highest potential. They can do anything that anyone else can do, some things might just take a little longer. I would if you could maybe do an interview with a parent of a child with DS or a person with DS. You can reach me by email. OR at the least please check out these sights I will list below under "SOURCES". THese will give you great scientific and personal information about DS.
One girl on here commented to someone who asked if they should abort their kid she said, "they will never be prom queen or king, they will never go to college, get married or have kids and you will have to take care of them for the rest of thier life." Well, these sites I will show you will prove her wrong, a prom king and queen (look up on youtube), many marry and live on their own and go to college and have jobs and and and, my friend casey has Mosaic Down syndrome like my son and he has a son my boy's age who doesnt have DS so....SHES WRONG! PS Thank you for doing this project, hopefully you can get some awareness for people with DS!
