Daiquiri Day

Need a method to awesome off? Why don't you celebrate Daiquiri Day. This refreshing drink was invented in early 1900′s in a tiny mining capital of scotland- Daiquiri near Santiago, Cuba, an engineer named Jennings Stockton Cox produced an easy drink known as a Daiquiri. Cox emerged with this particular concoction in order to awesome lower throughout the summer time month, having a simple mixture of lime juice, sugar and native Bacardi rum, over cracked ice. This he discovered to be the easiest method to raise the morale of mine employees throughout the new several weeks. Such was the prosperity of Cox’s drink not just did he received an ample stipend from the organization, also, he received a regular monthly gallon of Bacardi to carry on delivering the refreshing drink.

iberostar daiquiri?

Been to The Iberostar Daiquiri 3 times now and go back in June for the 4th. I would recommend this location/hotel to anyone, staff very friendly, food excellent and something for everyone, rooms very spacious and clean, plenty of entertainment and activities but sometimes weather too hot to participate!! Fantastic holiday

The Airport

Once we arrived at Cayo Coco airport although its a small airport this I found worked in your favour as the staff were all diligent and got you through at a rate of knots and the luggage was alredy going round by the time we got through. The bus to the hotel was also good and very comfortable and are practically brand new also because they have a bus per hotel your not sitting around whilst they drop off at the others.

The Hotel

Once we got there it was late and everyone was tired and narky but the staff worked their socks off to get you booked in and your luggage to your room. Everything is imaculatly clean and is very spacious and very modern and in keeping with the area as last year the hotel closed for 6 months for a referb and it showed as some of the other hotels looked and felt a bit tired and worn.

The Room

We were in the main block which was above the shops and bar area and near the theatre and we were a little worried as we had read in another review that it could be quite noisy but we did not find this at all once you closed your door you could only very and I mean very occassionally could you hear a little bit of noise.

The rooms are very spacious with a lot of wardrobe and dawer space. Also we invested in a safe for 2CUC's a day (the currency for the tourist which works out about a 3 a day - which is good value)

Also there is a large bathroom and clean towels available daily basis if you need and our maid Yudith cleaned the rooms beautifully and every day we would come back to towel swans or some sort of art on our bed which was lovely. We had a balcony too which was really spacious.

You also get a fridge which is restocked every other day and does not cost a thing with soft drinks, water and local beer.

All the other rooms looked beautiful too and the various blocks are named after cities in Cuba which is a nice touch.

The Facilities

There is something for everyone to do here from the brand new tennis courts wich opened the first week we got there, the gym, water sports on the beach - mini catarmerans, pedalos& kayaks which you get free for an hour per person per day, salsa dance lessons, bingo, pool, volley ball, water volley ball, horse riding, horseand cart, banna boat etc and caters for every age as everyone in our family found something they enjoyed (our age range was between 11-59) there is also a kids club and the staff are fantastic with them.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING - THE SITE HAS A 24 HOUR DOCTOR AND NURSE SERVICE AND PHARMACY this is extremely rare for Cuba as if you read up its very hard if not nearly impossible to get pharmacuticals there and is the only pharmacy on the island and most places only have doctors for a limited period a day or for a few days a week. My mum had to use this service and they were so helpful and very reasonably charged.

Entertainment

Each night they had something different on in the theatre and always started with a family orientated show often involving the kids then it went on to something more for the adults but still suitable for the kids and then a disco. These were always extremely well done but sometimes were a bit loud. Also with your meals there are a small band who will come to your table and sing (and do requests) which give it a really authetic feel) also many people from other hotels would often come to te Daquiri for the entertainment

Food and Drink

There are 3 restaurants the main buffett which always has a massive selection, the beach bar which does late brekfast snacks for lunch and at night becomes the Cuban restaurant with a wide menu and has fantastic views of the beach. Then there is the Mexican which has the most amazing Mexican food all of the restaurants are amazing and the staff brilliant. Also the pool bar does burgers and hot dogs in the afternoon and some fruit (the mini bananas are amazing) also with the ammount of palm trees the gardners go round and collect them and come round the beach and open them to drink or eat and are delicious. The lobby bar also has some cakes next to it for a light snack.

The drinks well there is one word for them AMAZING!! I worked my way through the cocktail list and enjoyed every single one (the strawberry daquiri, coco loco and blue marguarita were my faves) Look out for Edele he was very friendly and made amazing cocktails both alcoholic and non!

The Staff

This is what makes this hotel so special and gives it that extra little sparkle they are so so friendly and nothing is too much for them and you only have to tip a little and they are so thankful we also at the end of our stay we left some of the clothes that we wouldn't wear again, some flip flops and toiletries which they were more thakful for I think than money as one item of clothing can take up to four months to buy and basic toiletries are classed as luxuries and very expensive for them to get (a bottle of shampoo is about 20% of their monthly wage) we also used the last of our money to buys biscuits, crisp, gum and chocolate for them as these are luxury items to anthey were so grateful it took us nearly an hour to leave the main restaurant for all the thanks. Look out for Bernardo and Yanet and tell them the Bush's say hello they were brilliant.

The Rep

We went with Air Transat and the rep Luciano was brilliant and so helpful also .

The Beach

Is amazing pure white sand lots of shade but can equally lay in the sun.

The Trips

These can be from a few pesos to afew hundred and although seem expensive are very good value for money compared to some of the other places we have been on holiday. I would reccomend the Spectacular tour as you get to experience the real Cuba which you don't get to on the Island and the dolphin trip was a trip of a life time and amazing.

Also grab a taxi to Pilar Beach this is truely breath taking and only cost 5CUC per person

Have a wonderful trip!!!

What to do on a hot day in Modesto?

Virgin Daiquiris for everybody. Go to Wal-Mart and get some "Super Soakers" and have a water gun battle using the lawn chairs and tables for cover. Everybody has fun with that.
