On a related note, chili dogs and tequila are an effective cure for getting out of a carpool. A couple years back, I wanted to bail on an office carpool (people asked to be picked up from their doctor's office, to stop off at the grocery store, etc.) that had turned into a pain in the ass.
I spent an entire NFL sunday eating:

I held my bowels until Monday morning, when I climbed into the carpool van. Over the entire 45-minute drive, I pushed and bent and pinched and blew out as much of foul air as I could manage without filling my pants.
I was released from the carpool.
