Cherish An Antique Day

A day is set aside in April of every year on which to cherish special items that go back to a time when high quality and craftsmanship were most valued by a critical customers. It is a day on which everybody is motivated to review an age of creative ability that, for them, holds a special and classic appeal.

Cherish An Antique Day could be celebrated by a visit to an art gallery, or merely by getting a valued heirloom from its place of safety and showing it for the day. The idea is to admire previous workmanship and to create a higher understanding of the sort of visual charm that holds up against the test of time. It is hoped that direct exposure to the previous masters will certainly motivate a commitment to high quality instead of quantity in today's production-line sort of production. Treasuring an antique can make the previous much more existing.

Were hand colored B&W photos considered as cliche back in the day as selective color images today?

I don't think so.

Hand colored photos took a considerable amount of time and a bit of physical resources to accomplish. It was rarely done for free, indeed, it tended to be quite costly. The resulting images were cherished.

I have a couple of a antique hand colored B&W photos that are gorgeous; just this side of a piece of fine art.

The sheer quantity, notoriously poor execution and astounding popularity, by definition, make modern digital selective color a pedestrian cliché.

How much or what gift do I give my brother for graduating college with his PHD? IT has taken him 18 years!?

I have no idea what you might be able or willing to spend; however, 40 years ago, I received a gift upon the completion of my terminal degree that I cherish and display with pride to this day.

It is a handsome, personal "Colorprint Mirror." It is a large, tasteful mirror that measures 14.5" X 25.5" At the top is an Eglomise custom panoramic painting of a campus landmark with two beautiful lines of calligraphy: One with my name and degree; the other with my University's name and location. My "Colorprint Mirror" is framed in antique gold-tone wood. Today, the large "Colorprint Mirror" costs approximately $230. The company has smaller mirrors and other gifts using the same motif (e.g., personalized desk boxes, personalized desk clocks).

I have no financial interest in the company, "Ivy Covered Halls"; however they have been in business since 1922, and I have purchased three gifts for friends from them. Each time I have found the owners to be helpful and generous with their time. I urge you to visit their web site:

It is good of you to recognize his accomplishment as you do.

Congratulations to your brother!!

I would tell everyone that I'm close to that I love them and I would leave them my cherished items. An example, I have a beautiful antique oil painting of the ocean. My best friend Kim loves it and wants it. I would give it to her.

I would make sure my doggy's are taken care of. I would give my Mercedes to my son, who expects me to give it to him anyways.

I would make sure my hubby was taken care of and then, I'd pig out on as much food as I could! AND drink my most precious wines from my wine cellar.

I would enjoy the sunset and the ocean breeze. I would gaze at the stars, dog at my feet, both men by my side and finally know PEACE and that I am going HOME.
