Cable Car Day

In very early 1871 British-born, US homeowner Andrew Smith Hallidie received the very first patent in connection with the wire automobile, a celebration which is marked by Cable Car Day.

Hallidie's design for cable-propelled transit arised when he saw equines falling, as well as dying, while trying to pull cars up San Fransisco's high Jackson Road. Thankfully for San Fransiscan equines, Hallidie had the skill to transform his sympathy into activity, having recently devised a type of airborne tramway and created enhancements to unearthing cords which caused their economic life prolonging by more than 873 % ...

Two years after obtaining his cable television automobile patent, Hallidie set up the world's first cord car rail roadway on Clay-based Street. None of the initial line endures yet grasp automobile 8 is kept in Mason Road's Cord Automobile Gallery (which, certainly, sits on two of San Fransisco's three cable car routes).

Those that discover themselves outside San Francisco on Cable Car Day can still participate the enjoyable. Various other cities running cable auto railways include Venice, Tampa, Las Vegas and Milan yet, if you're nowhere near a rail roadway, you can still recognize the origins of the cable television automobile by patting a horse on the head!

Do Cable Cars run across the Golden Gate Bridge?

No cable cars. They only travel in the Downtown area. Keep in mind that the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, and Golden Gate National Recreation Area are three separate entities as well.

The bridge itself you can see fairly quickly. Golden Gate Park is roughly the size of Central Park in Manhattan (1,017 acres) and will require a full day. The GGNRA is absolutely huge (74,820 acres) and includes nature reserves on both sides of the bridge, including Muir Woods, the Presidio, Mount Tam, Point Reyes, and the Marin Headlands. You couldn't see all of the GGNRA in one day. I don't think you could see all of it in a week.

How to get to these sites using public transportation:

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - Use MUNI buses 28, 29, or 76

GOLDEN GATE PARK - Use MUNI light-rail N or buses 5, 16, 18, 21, 28, 29, 33, 44, 71

GGNRA (PRESIDIO) - Use MUNI buses 18, 28, 29, 41, 43, 45. There's a free shuttle to different areas of the Presidio from the Main Post.

GGNRA (MARIN HEADLANDS) - Use MUNI bus 76. This bus is year-round. But it only runs on Weekends and Holidays.

GGNRA (MUIR WOODS) - Take a GGT ferry to Sausalito from Fisherman's Wharf or Downtown San Francisco. Then transfer to GGT bus 66. This bus operates from May 2 to September 27 every year.

GGNRA (MOUNT TAM) - From Downtown San Francisco, use GGT buses 10, 70, or 80 to Marin City. Then transfer to West Marin Stagecoach 61.

Car mechanic guys help! Car won't start!!!?

When you say the "car died out of nowhere", did it die while it was running, or did it just not start? I am assuming that you went to start it, and then it wouldn't.

I'm with the rest of these guys -- the battery might have had it. It might have enough juice to run the headlights and things, but can't provide the massive amperage that a starter needs.

But some more thoughts:

So the starter actually turns - the engine is actually cranking when you try to start? Or does nothing happen at all when you try to start it? If nothing happens at all, it could be:

- Negative cable to starter (if this, it is usually a dirty connection to starter - I've had this happen several times). Take it off, sand it, put it back on.

- Starter is bad

- Positive lead to starter (dirty connection).

Try replacing the cable, if that doesn't fix it, replace the speedometer head itself. Years ago one could put graphite on the cable to quiet it down but those days are long gone.
