A foetus does not breathe inside its mother’s womb

A foetus does not breathe inside its mother's womb. The first cry after birth is the first attempt of the baby to breathe.

We breathe to take in oxygen. Oxygen is very much essential for the functioning of our body. The foetus receives oxygenated blood directly from the mother through the umbilical cord. (The umbilical cord connects the foetus with the placenta of the uterus of the mother). Hence, the necessity to breathe does not arise.

But, after birth, the umbilical cord is severed and the baby is forced to take in the atmospheric air for its survival. The lungs start functioning only after birth. The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the alveoli of the lungs and the baby starts to breathe.

Which BAB should I get?

Which BAB should I get?

Wow, you have a lot to spend.

I would go online to see what bears they have first. They have some that are only $10, but other animals are a bit more. Just make sure that when you pay, ask if you can join the "Stuff Fur Stuff" club. It's free. You get a point for every dollar you spend in the store and when you get to 100 you get a $10 certificate you can use in the store just like cash. You will be really close spending $94. Also make sure you make the birth certificates cause they will have an animal and key code to bring your bear/animal to life online at bearville.com. You will get a club condo to decorate, there are games to play, people to chat with and other cool stuff. Save your receipts cause there is a code on the bottom to enter at bearville too.

Have fun choosing :)

Natural pregnancy, birth, and raising of children?

Natural pregnancy, birth, and raising of children?

I had a problem free first pregnancy and problem free current pregnancy so far. Apart from the usual discomforts such as hip, back and stomach pain, constant tiredness and a bit of sickness all has been good. First visit is usually filling in paper work, blood tests and working out your due date and then you get a dating scan and further scans to determine bab's growing ok. You usually submit several urine and blood tests throughout the pregnancy. Here in England we don't have any internal examinations or smear tests whilst pregnant. The only internal examination you get here is at the end of your pregnancy or during labour. Some other countries do things slighlty different though. I had a sweep at the end as my daughter was overdue to try and get labour started. It worked.

I had pre natal vitamins and didn't take any ibruprofen or anti inflammatories during my pregnancy but took standard paracetamol of I was in need of it. I planned to use pain relief should I need it during labour and ended up using entinox and pethidine injection to take the edge off pain relief but I still felt the contractions. I wanted to use the pool for birthing but it was in use at the time.

I was in active labour for over 11 hours and ended up needed forceps to help get her out as she got stuck. I had to be cut and stitched up so it did take a few weeks to heal up again. I breast fed for a few days but found it too painful to carry on and my daughter wouldn't latch on so I went on to formula feed. She got on ok with that but you can get nipple shields if they have problems latching on. The first few days when the milk comes in leaves your breasts very hot and sore so take some paracetamol if you need to. Every labour is different and birth doesn't always go to plan so be prepared to stray a little from your birth plan. 4 months after her birth I fell pregnant with my second child and in 5 weeks I shall be giving birth again so fingers crossed it all goes ok.
