Well, here's a twist to what probably everyone else is going to say... instead of confronting her in a non-hostile way and telling her you care about her and that her lying is making you upset, go along with it - tell some bigger whoppers, play it up... she obviously is so bored that she needs to use her imagination, so why not help her use her imagination a little more?
For example, when she says her boyfriend is getting a BMW for his birthday, tell her it's too bad it's not a Ferrari... and shrug it off... then bring the conversation back to something real that happened or start talking about a movie you saw together. So each time she says something outrageous, you can either make up your own whopper, or just make a comment and change the subject.
If you do this and do this for a while, she will snap out of it. She will also know that you know and that will help bring her back down to earth, too. Plus, it won't be embarrassing to her like a direct confrontation will.
Usually when people do this, they need the outlet and things may not be going so well for her in one way or another.
So, in being a good friend, why not find a way to make her feel better about her existing life by contributing to her imaginary ideas for a short while.
Remember that it is not a crime to have an imagination... she could be a very famous writer one day. Make her embrace her ideas and maybe put them on paper.

Oh be nice, you old cow. When I try to explain healthy living or heath care to my retarded uncle-in-law, he turns red and starts flapping his hands about screaming, "liar liar!". He has touretts as well, BTW. Better to just do-the-right-thing and take care of him until he dies at an earlier than usual age.
