Travel opinions for 5 day backpacking trip to Italy?

Alright, first of all 5 days is going to be a VERY quick trip!! Really, it depends on what you want to see. I would suggest probably 2 days for Rome, Unless you just want to see the major sites and not do anything in great detail like going in the Colosseum or the Vatican. Next I would probably suggest Florence and Pisa, which both could easily be done in a day. That would leave you 2 days for Venice, or one day for Venice and one free day for another city of your choosing. Naples and Pompeii would also be very interesting to visit as well. Like I said, 5 days is kind of a short time. Do you have any idea of the major things you want to see? Also, if you would like, I am currently living IN Rome, and I have a friend and her mom that are going to be here the 29th through the 2nd and I will be showing them around and helping them out, if you want feel free to contact me and I would be willing to help you in any way I can. As for money saving tips, look into hostels, but also look into Budget hotels, because sometimes they are just as cheap as hostels but provide more privacy and quietness. In Rome the main things you want to see are the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, The Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, Piazza di Popolo, the Vatican, and anything else that might interest you. The main attraction in Pisa is the Leaning tower of Pisa, but that's about it. Florence is very beautiful, and is a very artsy city. Venice is going to be quite expensive, I will just tell you now. But if you are a youth (I think under 26) you can get a Rolling Venice Card for 4 Euro that will give you discounts at a lot of places. I am assuming you will be mostly travelling by train, so look into an Italy pass. They are $169 plus thew supplements for the High speed train, but you might just want to price out your trip and see if it's going to be worth it. Trenitalia is the train company for all of Italy, and their website is great to look for tickets but a pain to buy them. I would tell you to try and but in advance, but since you are coming in 3 days it doesn't really matter. As for food, be aware that most hotels do not include breakfast, and you will have to pay more for it, so you might look for deals that include breakfast. When I was planning my Eurotrip, I used booking.com and hostels.com to price things out. Also sometimes it might be cheaper to just eat at a cafe. Many places have tourist menus that are usually a pretty good deal. Also, if you think it will be worth it, look into the Roma Pass. It's 20 Euro but it gives you unlimited use of the public transit in Rome, free admission to your first attraction (For example the Colosseum, which costs 9 Euro alone) and discounts on exhibitions after that. Wow, so that was probably too much information, sorry. Anyway, email me if you need any other help or want to know anything else.

Ciao!!

You might look into getting your own domain and getting e-mail through it.

Look at Go daddy for e-mail and possibly website hosting. With the website comes mailboxes that you can use up to your choosing.

Dreamhost is another good one with great features and uptime.
