can the litter of an AKC dog mixed with a non registered purebred be registered in the AKC?

No.

The sire and dam must be registered with the AKC for the litter to be eligible.

The breeder not the owner registers a litter and obtains the paperwork to pass on to new owners.

Paperwork that should come on the date of sale and collection of a puppy is AKC paperwork to transfer owner of an already registered litter.

It is possible there was a misunderstanding and what the breeder supplied was AKC paperwork on the puppy to transfer a change of ownership and did not mislead you into believing that you could register him?

Did the breeder have an affix, kennel name that you remember, if so that would be one way to trace the breeder. Otherwise where was the litter advertised? Perhaps wherever it was listed for sale has the contact information of the breeder.

Life does not have to happen if you own and intact dog and b^tch. I had both for many years without coming close to setting up the circumstances for an unplanned litter. The dog was kept entirely separated from the b^tch for three weeks and when he was take outside to the garden, out for exercise and training, he was moved about on a lead.

The Doberman is a breed with a variety of health problems know to affect it including heart failure (incurable with a poor life expectancy post diagnosis and can result in sudden cardiac death) hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, von willebrands and cervical spondylopathy. Health testing reduces the risk of a litter inheriting a life limiting or impairing health problem and that is what puppies and their owner deserve.

Finding responsible owner for a pet/companion dog litter is not as easy as you seem to believe. On any day if you look on line there are a multiple puppies advertised in papers and online, which are the result of a lack of vigilance, back yard breeder or puppy farms and being offered for sell below the market price of a well bred, sound and health tested Doberman puppy.

People who know the breed from having researched it thoroughly, spent time with well bred adult dogs or previous owned it and experienced, would either purchase from an ethical breeder or choose to support Doberman breed rescue or a general breed/mix rescue and therefore unlikely to purchase a puppy from an unplanned litter.

Can Akitas and other large dog breeds be crate trained?

Can Akitas and other large dog breeds be crate trained?

You really really have to shop for personality on a dog like this. Poorly bred Akitas can be aggressive and have severe health problems. Be sure to use a breeder who has done all the appropriate health screenings and whose dogs are "personality plus" type dogs. Someone just breeding simply because they have an AKC dog is NOT the person you want to get a dog from. Your breeder needs to be a member of the national AKC club and follow their codes of ethics, needs to follow the AKC breeding guidelines, and needs to thoroughly screen potential owners.

As far as crate training, sure, most dogs can be crate trained. But, you have to be doing it for the right reasons. Crates are great to help dogs feel secure and to contain them so that they don't hurt themselves, but crates are not a replacement for being a responsible owner and should NEVER be used as a baby sitter. What I mean by this is that if you are working 8 hours a day and expect to have your dog in the crate for that time, and then to sleep in the crate at night, that's an inappropriate use of a crate. Crating for 8 hours at a time is not responsible dog ownership. Crates should only be used to supplement, not to take the place of proper care.

Akitas are TRUE working dogs and should not be left home alone all day. They need jobs & tasks to keep them busy. A lonely and underworked Akita is a destructive and possibly an aggressive Akita.

Good luck to you in your search.

You know that is such a good idea. I live in the UK and we have Discover Dogs. Its the same where all breeds come together, so think its like 200 or so. They hold this yearly at Earls Court, London.

They also have Discover Dogs running through and alongside Crufts.

I suppose for those in the States being the size the country is only having it at something like Westminster wouldn't really benefit.

I wish we had smaller clubs doing something like this, though i'm sure they would be too small and the rescue societies wouldn't want breed clubs cramping their style.
